@rattles: thanks. We tried the Diono Radian RXT today and loved it! However, we didn't put it in the car, and now that I'm reading reviews, not sure how well it will fit in our little car (Honda Fit).

@lulibee: We got a Clek Foonf. I hated to spend the money, but it fit the best in our sedan and DD seemed to like it the best in the store. We only have one car and we had a discount code, which helped. I wouldn't have had any hesitation at all though if I'd known how well she'd like it on that trip!

What car seat do you have, btw?

I would DEFINITELY recommend getting a convertible before you go. DD always fussed at least while getting into her infant seat. We upgraded to the convertible before our 22 hour road trip each way at Christmas. She cried for less than 45 minutes total over the four days. It was a total game changer for us. I think she loved being able to see so much and to spread out more.

@lulibee: She liked them equally. I do think she slept better, and for longer in the infant seat. She's too big for the infant seat now. She was never a car seat hater, though.

My LO greatly prefers his convertible. He always hated the infant though, so I don't know if it's a matter of one being comfyer or just his preference

That's not really an option MsKeee. We are going to drive down, but will have a POD driven down separately. And we have a Honda Fit (SMALL CAR!), so we cannot put 2 car seats in there for such a long ride

Our LO (6 months) much prefers the convertible to the infant, but she never was really into the infant. If you're getting a convertible anyway, and you have the space, you could always just install the convertible, bring the infant, and see which one you LO prefers on the way!

Thanks Weagle. He's ok in the car seat for a bit, and has napped in it - but he can get fussy at times (but am not sure if that's because there's nobody in the back with him).

I guess you can't tell how the baby is feeling, but you're saying your LO looks equally comfortable in both?

Does your LO do well in the infant seat? Is he getting close to outgrowing it? I would consider using the infant seat if he still fits well and sleeps well in it. If not, go ahead and switch. LO sleeps just as well in her convertible as her infant, and she enjoys being able to see out a bit more.

We will be moving from Massachusetts to Florida in early March, and are contemplating all driving in our car with our 9 month old (originally I was going to fly down with him separately).

If any of you have made the trip, the ride is about 24 hours (1,300 miles). My brother is planning on coming as well, so there will be two drivers at all times, and I can sit in the back to entertain LO.

So, we currently still only have an infant car seat which we planned on keeping for the time being because it's too cold to be moving LO in and out of the car this winter. However, since we're moving to a warmer state, we think we can go ahead and think about a convertible car seat.

More importantly, I was wondering if I should buy the new car seat to have for our trip down - to make the ride more comfortable for LO.

Do you think LO will be more comfortable in a long car ride in an infant car seat, or convertible? Thoughts?
