I agree with everyone else and got a laugh out of this thread. What on earth could you possibly be doing that would take 4-6 hours? I think it took like 15-20 minutes the first time I put it in and now with the LATCH system I can get it in faster. Even without the LATCH system it took DH like 10 minutes to get it in the car the first time we tried it.

yeah, we did ours as a test in DH's mini cooper and it took less than 20 minutes still. not sure what the heck you would do for 4 hours?! much less 6.

What could you possibly do for 4-6 hrs? I feel like if you hadn't made progress after 30-45 minutes, it's time to give up and ask for help. The guy at Buy Buy Baby installed one in like 5 mins to test it out in our car--I imagine it will take DH 15-20 mins when we buy ours (the LATCH system is so easy!).

wow!! Did she mean if you build your own car seat and then install it????? 4-6 hours is like put carseat in car - wait 30 minutes to make sure you like it in there, loop one loop and wait 45 minutes, etc. haha!

DH installed the base in about 5 minutes. Then he had the sheriff check it and they said it wasn't tight enough...took the sheriff maybe 3 minutes to "fix" it. 4-6 hours seems crazy!

So does that time include shopping around for the perfect one, gettin lunch, returning the car seat and exchanging it for a new one then installing it? Why on earth would it take so long?! It took us about 15 minutes the first time.

Uh, no. 20 minutes is about what it should take. I just got our convertible car seat installed by the fireman yesterday- I pulled out of the parking lot 23 minutes later. Same thing with our infant seat a year ago. That included some paperwork and talking for a few minutes.

Wow, that's crazy! If it took that much time to do, we'd have to leave tonight to bring her to my parents for the day tomorrow just so that we have enough time to install the seat! lol!

It takes us 2 minutes to move it from car to car now.

We have a Graco Snugride and it took us about 20 minutes to install it in our Honda Fit. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. And our local fire station offers inspections, so we're going to take it over there.

That sounds crazy... I have a snug ride and it is very straightforward with latch. I will say that it gets more complicated for convertible car seat in rear face, especially if you have britax and tethering. That could definitely take over an hour or two to get a solid install.

If it takes you 4-6 hours to install a car seat with the latch system it's possible you are not equipped to raise a child!!! It took hubs 15 minutes to install our Chicco seat and that bad boy is secure.

OK good, I have no clue either! The thing that took the most amount of time was figuring out how to remove my car's rear headrests (only to find out that was only for seats with a tether). I have no clue what she was talking about. She also told us that the days of having our seats inspected at the fire station are over, meanwhile the link she gave us to find inspection sites is filled with fire stations.

Oh well, hopefully her advice about the actual labor part was accurate... I'm just relieved we got our whole afternoon back after thinking this would take forever!

Yeah, ours only took about 20 minutes using the LATCH system as well and it's fine. I can't imagine spending 4-6 hours installing a car seat! Even the videos online only take about 10 minutes.

We installed our car seat today -- we have a Graco Snugride and my car has the LATCH system where you just loop belt from the car seat through metal "hooks" in the automobile seat. But the instructor from our childbirth class seriously freaked us out -- she told us it if takes us 20, 30 minutes to install, we did it wrong. That the average time is 4-6 hours. Um... Seriously? Did we do something really wrong? Because it took us maybe 20 minutes.

Don't get me wrong, we're going to get it inspected, but it's not moving more than an inch side to side and passed all the tests the instruction manual gave us. I double and triple checked all the instructions. And it still took us like half an hour tops. But all I ever hear about is what a beast car seats are to install, and this was really, really simple. We were setting aside the whole afternoon for it!

Anybody else have a Graco Snugride and can set my mind at ease that it does not indeed take 4-6 hours to install?
