if you ever have car seat questions, the Facebook group car seats for the littles is very, very helpful. A word of caution though, read their user agreement first.. I wouldn't call it an aggressive group (ok maybe a little aggressive but passionate is a better word) but just read the user agreement and scan some posts to get a feel for things.

Some brands make a special mat to fit and are tested by the company to be safe - our britax and foonf both have them

Seat protectors make it really hard to get a proper install on your seat and almost all seats forbid their use. You really aren't supposed to put anything under the seat, even thin blankets. You can use a tightly rolled towel to help get a proper incline.

They are generally not recommended and some brands even forbid them. We do use an old nursing cover to protect the seat where DD's feet go. We hang it around the headrest and tuck it in between the vehicle seat and car seat. It doesn't impact the install and is easy to wash.

For our car with cloth seats we just take the seat out once a month for a day or so and any dents pop out. We vacuum the car while the seat is out and don't allow food in the car.

For our car that has leather seats we take the car seat out once a month and condition the leather. If we leave the seat out for 24-48 hours the dents pop out.

Depends on your car seat. some car seats allow nothing between the seat and the carseat other than a very very thin towel.

We have leather seats and I hate that the car seats leave impressions but the use of seat protectors is not recommended from a safety stand point as it can affect the installion.

Does anyone use carseat protectors on cloth seats?

I have seen some that look like they cover the butt part of the seat only, and others that go all the way up the back. Some remind me of the chair massage things at Brookstone... others look like a plastic/rubber tray that you'd have under your dish drying rack.

What's best? Did you use the same protector with the infant seat & older kid set or do you have to get different ones for each type of car seat?
