Similar to @highwire, our hospital has several people on staff that are certified. When we were being released, they showed us how to properly put the baby in the seat and then made sure the base was properly installed in the car before we left.</p> <p>Ours was in the center of the backseat as well. My car doesn't support a center install, so we did it behind the drivers seat.
