If it makes you feel any better - I was in an accident and my car looked very much like yours did and it was not totaled. (The value of the car at the time was really low, too so they went back and forth on it originally, but it ended up being repaired, and ran great for another 5 years when I traded in to get a mommy car!) The NHTSA defines a minor accident and says a seat doesn't have to be replaced if the accident qualifies as minor and many insurance companies follow those guidelines. Many seat manufacturers mandate replacement after ANY accident however. They said that they will looking at my vehicle by Monday. They will then determine what they will be covering for replacement. They also told me that I will likely have to buy the car seats and send the receipt for reimbursement. After impact with the other car both boys where crying and scared in the backseat. N had blood in his mouth, but I (and the other medical professionals) think he bit his lip durning impact.
