We had a Yukon XL while traveling last month with our 4 LOs. Ours didn’t have captain’s chairs but a bench but we had our three younger kids in the 2nd row and our oldest (who’s only 4.5) in the third row. We did a seatbelt install with the bucket seats (twins so 2 buckets) that way we had easy access to the middle seat and the third row.
In my car here at home (different car) I can flip the backrest over the base just enough so I have somewhat easy and comfortable access to the third row. Could that work?

@bees_knees: We have a Diono and a Clicktight. I would hands down say get the Clicktight!

Also some sites dont really recommend the Diono as a booster seat because of the belt positioner. So more to think about.

My large/tall 6 year old loves her Clicktight harness still.

I have and love the Graco Tranzitions. I drive a small car usually (Nissan Versa) and this seat is very slim but still feels really plush and nice. You can order it from Walmart and Amazon.

@bushelandapeck: agree, they are huge. But the Clicktight is sooooo awesome. I’m leaning toward ordering a Frontier and just crossing my fingers it works. And if not, maybe removing a captain chair until DS2 turns FF.

@bees_knees: ahhh, I see. Ours doesn't have the Captains Chairs. I do like the Diono's, although the install is a PITA, in my opinion. I have only ever owned Britax before this and love the ease of install for the Frontier (click tight is amazing!). We have one in my DH's car, along with an Advocate for DD. They are just a little too bulky side by side.

@bushelandapeck: we have captain chairs in the middle row. Do you like your Dionos? I only have experience with Britax and Chicco seats, which isn’t helping my perspective any ha Good idea about CSFTL tho, thanks!

@catgirl: I haven’t tried a baseless install, but I think it would be annoying to buckle/unbuckle due to the placement of the buckles, at least in the back row. There is one tether in the third row (seriously? One tether? 🙄) that can be used with driver’s side or middle seat placement, so we are good there.

No baby boutiques or big box stores within 1.5 hours. (The closest Babies R Us is 4 hours away, Buy buy Baby even farther. Rural living! 😏) So I’ll have to order, prob via amazon, and return if it doesn’t work.

@bees_knees: you could post this on Car seats for Littles FB page and see what response you get. Could you just buy two smaller seats to allow everyone to be in the middle row together? Do you need access to the third row otherwise? We have a large SUV with 3 rows and bought two Diono RXTs (RF ad FF options) and a Chicco Keyfit for our baby due in Jan and they all fit 3 across.

@bees_knees: have you tried doing a baseless install with the chicco next to your advocate? Or you could do a baseless install in one of the captain's chairs.

I don't know your vehicle well - do you have tether anchors in the third row where you plan on putting your older LO?

As far as narrow combination seats - the harmony defender, graco wayz/tranzitions, or the Cosco finale. Of course the fit would depend on your LO's stats.

The britax combination seats do not generally work well next to another seat but you never know. Most babies r us and buy buy baby stores will let you try seats.

@T.H.O.U.: yes, that arrangement. Sorry to be confusing :meh:

DS1 can’t unbuckle himself yet, so I need easy access to the third row to help him.

Another thing to consider, the baby seat will be taken in and out. So hypothetically at least for the first 3 months or so, you could put both RF in the middle and let your DS1 climb into the third row before you clip in the bucket seat. Also my kids are totally able to climb under my RF seat.

Sorry, not totally following you. So basically you have 2 that are RF and 1 FF. But you can only put the RF in the middle of the back. So you are thinking of putting

Middle row - Empty seat, RF kid #2
Third row - FF kid 1, RF Kid #3, empty seat?

Taking out a bucket seat really might solve a lot

Yes, we have a giant beast of a vehicle and are still struggling to puzzle car seats it. :bummed: We drive a Yukon XL with middle bucket seats. Currently, DS1 (3.5) is FF in a Britax Advocate and DS2 (16 mo) is RF, also in a Britax Advocate. We already own a Chicco Keyfit 30, which DS3 will use when he arrives in January.

We have to RF one of the seats in the third row to still allow access to the third row. I can only fit a RF seat in the middle of the third row. I’m thinking it will be easiest to have DS1 FF driver’s side outboard with the infant bucket seat next to him in the third row, with DS2 RF in the passenger side captain chair.

SO, my big question—does anyone have a semi-narrow combination seat they recommend for DS1 that will fit next to a Chicco KF? Right now his Advocate won’t fit next to it  Or have any other ideas on how we can fit two RF seats? We’ve tossed around the idea of removing a captain chair, but obviously would like to avoid that if all possible. Also would like to minimize the $$$ we have to drop on new seats.

I’m partial to the Britax CTs, so have been eyeing a Frontier for DS1...it is only 1.5” narrower than the Advocate, but I think that’s all it would take. Heeeeeeeellllpppp.
