We had the Britax B-Safe seats but our situation was a bit unique bc we don't have a car (live in NYC). I was happy with them, they worked with our stroller and were relatively easy to install when we did rent a car for travel. Truthfully, I think the convertible car seat is a much bigger and more difficult decision bc those you use for so much longer, although we did use our infant seats until 13 months! But I wouldn't stress too much over infant seats, save that for the convertibles (we have Dionos)! Also, good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

So many recommendations for the same one - huge IMO! I feel so much calmer reading all your recommendations!

@bluestriped bee: Thanks for clarifying about squeezing between - totally makes sense! I did see a RE, 4 unsuccessful IUIs (1 clomid, 3 injectibles) and we moved over to IVF - super successful round. Did a single embryo transfer and wound up with identical twins! So lucky :)

I used the Keyfits too. I rarely ever carried them both at the same time, so weight was not a huge concern for me. I used the double snap n go to transport them both around in their car seats. However, I could carry them both if I needed to. I definitely recommend a seat that goes down to 4 lbs. I went to 38 weeks but my twins were still small, and my son was down to just over 4 lbs when we left the hospital, so we needed a car seat that worked for tiny babies!

I don't have twins, but my sister does and she used the Chicco Keyfit 30s. She transitioned them to convertible seats around 10 months, but they could have stayed in the seats for another 8 months or so because they were not anywhere near the height/weight limits. Most LOs hit the height limit before they hit the weight limit, so I doubt many people are carrying around a 30 lb LO in the seat.

I also used the Chicco Keyfit for my twins. We chose them for their safety, because they fit small babies, are very easy to install and we loved how easy they were to click into the base and go. We actually used them for a long time, til around 18mo or so because they were small and didn't outgrow them til them.

@meadow: BTW, congrats on your twin pregnancy. I remember you commenting about seeing an RE and having an IUI. Were you successful with an IUI?

@meadow: Yeah, I've sat between the car seats. I've had one car seat in the base and I get in the car then DH will put the other baby in the base. I am small enough that if I didn't want to disturb the babies, I can climb out of the car by going through the front seat. I have a CRV.

@bluestriped bee: Thanks! It's nice to hear a brand I've heard of before. What do you mean by being able to squeeze between them in the car? Like you can climb in the side door and walk over to the other car seat? I was assuming I'd have to load and unload from each door separately.

I think a few of us (twin mom's) have the Chicco keyfit. I got it because it fits small babies at 4 lbs. I didn't think I would have a small baby but when my water broke at 28 weeks and delivered them at 34 weeks, the car seats passed the car seat test in the hospital.
Other reason for the Chicco was that it was the most narrow. I figure I could squeeze between them to sit in my car. I can and did so it was nice.

Oh, I don't know how the keyfits are in terms of weight. I assume it's not the lightest but my twins are 4 months now and about 10-11 lbs. I can't carry both but don't have a problem carrying one. My babies were small when they came home at 5-6 lbs so it wasn't so bad. You do definitely get used to it. I do wonder if I'll just get stronger or if there will be a point (like at 15-20lbs) that it will be too heavy to carry them in the car seat. Oh the keyfit I have is the keyfit 30 so it holds upto 30 lbs. That seems like a lot of weight. :meh: I would assume that they might be walking at 30 lbs and will most likely transition to the convertible car seats before they are 30 lbs. Oh, they might even reach the height limits before the weight limit.

Moms of twins:

What car seats do you have? Do you like them? I have spent hours researching and still feeling completely overwhelmed. All I know is I priority 1 is safety and priority 2 is lighter weight so I can physically carry both.

The only seat I've seen specifically reviewed for twins is:
Maxi-Cosi Mico Max 30 Infant Car Seat. It looks great - but I'd like to comparison shop.

Help :)
