I would try for some shelf stable meal like things, maybe even a jar of fancy nut butter and crackers. A gift card to audible or Amazon for audio books or Kindle books and a pair of headphones for when her little one is sleeping.

I'm wishing the best for this family.

When my dad was in the hospital the best thing we received was a storage container filled with a bunch of different snacks. It was awesome. My dad couldn't have them, but we had snacks for ourselves and any visitors that stopped by.

Eye mask. Fur lined Croc slippers. This time of year Costco sells this fleece shawl that is amazing for $15 bucks (Ike Behar brand) and it's been a favorite gift for all the women in my life who have to work in cold offices or for planes or movie theaters and I think it would be great for both mom or kiddo. I'd get the kid a huggable friend, maybe an iTunes gift card to buy games or TB shows to watch. Fun socks or slippers for the kid and a fuzzy blanket.

Also may be out of budget but when I was in ICU and recovering at home from major surgery the best gift I got was a Barefoot Dreams blanket.

Thank you! These are wonderful ideas!!

@AB810: we thought about meal train, but they're new to their area and don't have many friends there yet. Thankfully there is an Uber service that delivers food.

My daughter was recently in the hospital for over two weeks and it is so hard. Definitely some socks and a nice blanket, some snacks and a water bottle, and a book/magazines. If you could organize a meal train for her family that would also help, that was a lifesaver for us.

We did something like this for friends. I dont remeber everything but it included some magazines, an adult colouring book, some toys and books for the baby, some instant noodles and other snacks, some water, some tissues and other toiletries, some coins to get coffee or stuff from vending machines. I can't remember anything else!

I'm not sure where to post this ...

I have a friend whose 4 year old was diagnosed with leukemia 3 days ago - he's been admitted to the hospital and already receiving chemo. My mama friend is also 32 weeks pregnant. My heart aches for her so deeply.

Several friends and I are wanting to send the family $$ for carryout, but we also want to send her a care package. She can't leave the hospital (her husband is home with their other kids). I know several of you have had long NICU stays. And while not exactly the same, that physical stress is so hard. What could we send to make her even a bit more comfortable?
