@Jess1483: Your niece might be a little young for this, but I got this for my husband's cousin's daughter when her brother was born at 25 weeks (she was around 3 at the time). Hubs's cousin said it was really helpful and made M less scared to visit L in the hospital. http://www.amazon.com/My-Sister-Preemie-Joseph-Vitterito/dp/0988294095#

Do they have a grocery delivery service near them that you can order or get them a gift card? If you have to pay for parking at the hospital, doing that up front for them would be helpful too.

@littleredhairedgrl: I'm definitely going to send something for big sister! I so wish we could visit in the next month or so, but it's not in the cards.

a big sibling "package" for the older child to help them feel like a part of everything.

amex gift card for gas since they will be traveling back and forth from the hospital. offering to cook and clean is super helpful too

i also really found it most helpful to have people there once we got home. we had a lot of support while A was in the nicu but once she was home things definitely got very quiet and that was when i wanted the company the most.

We live 10 hours away, or I'd totally clean/cook for them. But I will try to put together a good snack box and maybe some gift cards. Any more ideas?

DH did sudoku and I actually appreciated an extra long phone charger!!! Some homemade meals in the fridge would've been nice, because like many, we were there from 9am-7pm and too tired to cook and the laundry and chores racked up, but I would've rather spent the day with the baby and my crotch hurt and ugh

I second food! We just got done with a 10 day NICU stay with our newborn and we ate fast food almost every day. And not just dinner. Snacks are great too. We couldn't eat then in the NICU but when we were going back and forth, we liked chewy bars and fruit.

Maybe a maid service? Or if you're close with them, volunteering to clean house/do laundry or dishes, we loved that!!

Food! Hospital food sucks, gas cards and food giftcards are AMAZING so you don't have to eat hospital food. Maybe some books or magazines for mom!

My niece was born by emergency C-section today at 33/34 weeks (not sure exactly). She is doing ok, and so is Mama, but obviously a lot is up in the air right now (length of stay being one of them). They also have a 1.5 year old. Luckily, both sets of grandparents are nearby.
Is there anything I can do/send that would be especially helpful?
