@LBee: Yes, when I was personally recovering from ICU for another health issue, my Barefoot dreams blanket was my favorite thing. And great call about the 10ft iphone charger - that's always on my list of suggestions for moms packing their hospital bag. I might also add a sleep mask and some ear plugs - you never know when Mom will need to catch a snooze and there's so many lights and what not at the hospital.

No NICU experience, but I have hospital bed rest experience.

Things that were sent to me:
- an extra long iphone charger
- a plug in fan for my bed (I was on meds that caused me to get horrible hot flashes)
- Barefoot dreams ANYTHING (I particularly love the sweater and the blanket)
- a Nalgene type water bottle
- snacks
- flowers (this seems cliche, but I received them a little later in the game - like day 5 - and having them in my room was so uplifting)
- Amazon gift cards, food gift cards

A very good hand cream, as you have to wash your hands in NICU constantly. A warm chenille robe might be helpful for kangaroo care - you can put the baby on your chest and then wrap them in the robe. Comfortable shoes that can fit thick socks, like Crocs. Encouraging hand written phrases on index cards that can be taped to the NICU bassinet to know that you are rooting for that baby. Gift cards to restaurants near the hospital. Stuff for the older kid.

I think anything you include will be appreciated and make her feel loved and cared for! A robe or soft blanket, slippers, creamy hand lotion, snacks, something distracting (magazines, light breezy novel), chapstick!

I second meal delivery and the gift would be nice too.

I would also suggest a gift card for meal delivery like Grub Hub or Uber Eats. We had a long hospital stay with my DS and it was nice to have some real food

A nice blanket is a good suggestion too! We got one in a care package and I slept with it every night as it was so much softer than the hospital linens.

That would be very nice of you. I'd include reading materials (books, gossip mags), cross word puzzles/word finds, some spa items (lotions, etc) and maybe a journal or something like that. And maybe a nice soft blanket.

My best friend is currently 28 weeks pregnant and on hospital bedrest. It looks like she will be delivering soon, and she will likely need major surgery and her baby will have a significant NICU stay.

I just feel so helpless since I live too far away to help with her older child. I’d like to send her a care package and was thinking a nice cozy robe and slippers would be nice. Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!
