We have hardwood in all the common areas (Living/kitchen/dining) and carpet in all the bedrooms. I like the hardwood floors (with an area rug in the living room), but one thing I wasn't prepared for is how much NOSIER my house is with hardwood as opposed to carpet. I hope that doesn't bother future LO when they are napping....

I think hardwood floors look much more attractive... but you're right that carpeting is nicer for a baby to play on and lie on. I agree w/ others -- a nice area rug might be the best compromise.

I agree with pp, I'd stick with hardwood and use this as an excuse to get a pretty rug.

I say hardwood with area rugs. They won't be babies forever, and hardwood is better for resale! Not to mention they're easier to keep clean.

We have tile, we're just going to live with it. In the short term id love carpet, but in the long run we just cant afford to keep switching.

@Andrea: looking for area rugs now! Our wood floors are fairly new -- put in 4 years ago. They're nice :T

@chopsuey119: maybe you should just get some large area rugs. it would be a shame to cover up hardwood floors -- unless they are in poor condition.

We have hardwood on our whole first level. It's just more attractive and cleaner for high traffic areas. But for upstairs (bedrooms and a loft that will become a play room) we have carpet. I prefer carpet in bedrooms... I admit hardwood looks nicer but carpet is just cozier.

Hardwood – for both allergen reasons and aesthetic reasons (I hate the way wall to wall carpeting looks).

With pets and/or LO I prefer hardwood, alas we have carpet almost everywhere except kitchen and bathrooms. We're talking about replacing with hardwood because the carpet is nearly impossible to keep clean.

I love hardwoods and hate carpet but I also don't have a LO yet. When our one dog who pees everywhere passes away, we'll be replacing the carpet with hardwoods and put a nice cushy rug on top of it.
@chopsuey119: awww. :)

@Goldilocks1107: We have foam tiles, but they're still on the hard side (hurts me to lie on them). They also attract lots of dust/particles/hair too. Pain in the butt. -.-
I don't think DH will agree to the carpet, but we'll see.
:T Our 3rd level is all carpet so maybe we'll just spend more time up there.

Omg. my LO is kissing my shoulder. she's so cute! :D

For hygienic reasons, I prefer hard wood. My husband and son have a lot of allergies and we need to be able to get all of those dust mites and such.

Once we get settled in our new house, I want to replace the carpeting in the bedrooms with hardwood. I have indoor allergies, and carpet is a dust mite haven! I do think I'll add some (washable) rugs, though, to get some softer play spots.
What about those rubbery puzzle squares I've seen some people use in play spaces? That way you don't need to cover the hardwood, but still have a softer place to play (and at a lower cost).

We spend most of our time on our 2nd level, which has hard wood floors.
I'm kinda tired of my LO bumping her head and hurting herself on the wood.

With another baby on the way I'm wondering if we should have some carpet installed. What do you think?

We spent the last couple of days in a hotel with carpeted floors and LO has been lying on the floor (she never does this at home) and seems to really like it.
