It's very light compared to our Britax seats. If I grab both straps together, I can actually throw it over my shoulder. It's also easy to install and remove on the plane. We didn't check any luggage which was why we gate checked. Several airlines we flew past also wrapped up our car seat for us when we checked it in. We bought a car seat specifically for travel, it's the one regberadaisy linked above. When I fly with LO alone, I wear her in the Beco in front, wear her diaper bag on my bag (it's a messenger bag that converts to backpack) and wheel the carseat. LO was only 8 months when we flew, so I pushed her in the stroller (got a gate check bag for that, too) and hubs wore the carseat. The seat came out fine.
