While our younger one was still in the bucket seat she was on the driver side and our older one was on the passenger side. Now we're switching since I'd rather have my young toddler on the passenger side and my 3 year old on the driver side since he's more sensible now.

You might need to just play around and see what fits. I put the bucket seat in the middle and put the convertable seat ( rear facing ) behind the passenger. It fit well in my mazda 3.

Following what others have already said, we moved DS1 behind the driver's seat and put DS2 in the bucket behind the passenger seat. Since the bucket takes up more room.
Plus I feel like I can just 'see' that seat better while driving (in the rear view).

Give it a try. You will probably need to install both with the seatbelt since that usually gets the install closer to the door (and latch isn't an option in the middle).

If that doesn't work, replacing one of both with a smaller safety seat can work. The cybex Aton seats are the smallest infant seats and the combo coccoro is probably the smallest convertible.

The NextFit and the Bucket fit next to each other in my Pilot (though our NextFit is FF). I would at least try to get them in next to each other before you give up on the idea!

I'll echo others - the younger child in my family has always been behind the passenger, since her seat (infant or convertible) has the greatest recline and therefore takes up the most room.

I have my toddler behind the driver seat and my baby's bucket behind the passenger seat. I like this configuration because I don't like taking the bucket in and out when there are cars going by (I have to open my door too wide). This way I take the bucket out, place on the sidewalk, then grab my toddler from behind the driver. I find everyone is safe that way

I have a crv and had the bucket in the middle and LO1 rear facing behind me (I'm short). I wanted someone in the middle so it would be easy for an adult to ride in the back with them. I recently switched them around and LO1 is forward facing in the middle and LO2 is rear facing behind the passenger and when LO3 gets her in Oct we will put the bucket seat behind the driver.

We put #1 behind the driver's seat because even rear-facing, her seat took up less space than the bucket seat, and DH (who usually drives) needs more leg room.

We had to flip our nextfit around and put it behind the driver, but she was 2.5 and I was comfortable with it. I could drive with a rf seat behind me but DH needs more leg room. I didn't try center seat for either because it seemed too hard to get someone in and out of that seat plus we don't have latch in the middle seat (I know you can do seatbelt install but I just didn't want to). We have a Lexus rx350.

#2 is coming next month and I've started to think about where the bucket seat goes. When DS was in the bucket he was in the middle. DS is still rear facing on the passenger side.

I don't think the bucket (keyfit) will fit in the middle, next to the NextFit in my CR-V. So, do I keep him there and put the bucket behind the driver? Flip DS to behind the driver and put the bucket behind the passenger? (I hope not, bc then I fear the NextFit won't fit rf and the driver still be comfortable. I mean, he's 2, so I could make him ff, but would really rather not.)

It seems like I should keep DS where he is, so I can grab the bucket and place that on the ground/ sidewalk while I unbuckle DS--but am I not thinking of something?
