I put a hat on her for the short walk into the building. I felt bad this morning b/c I didn't have a coat on her but it was 50 out and it wasn't too windy. We are outside for maybe 10 seconds on that walk to daycare from the car. If it's really cold, I just wrap her in a blanket on the way in or tuck her in my jacket. :) I will put her in a fleece on colder days, though.

Thanks everyone. I think I will just get a carseat cover and carry the car seat in. What she outgrows this carseat then I will have to figure out the next step.

@LivsMama: Does the same rule apply for older kids in a convertible car seat?

I know its a pain in the butt, but DONT put her in the car seat with her coat on. She should be ok for short in an out walks wrapped in a blanket. And if not, bring her to the car in her jacket, take it off when you put her in, and put it back on when you get out. I know its annoying and a lot of extra steps, but a coat in a car seat ISNT safe. Even if its a thick coat thats not puffy, its not safe. Dont have her wearing anything more than a fleece in there.

I can sympathize- we live in Canada, we can't just 'wrap her tight' for the walk in and out of the car, there needs to be protection from the elements. Right now I've been putting her in her seat wearing a coat or fleecy snowsuit thingy and just snugging it up nice and tight for short trips. For a long car ride I take it off when we get to the car because I don't want her to overheat.

We put a coat on LO when he is in carseat as well as a blanket. We carry LO in to daycare in his carseat. We don't put on his puffy coat because it's too big on him, so we have this thinner looking jacket and a fleece jacket we have been putting him in.

Yes i also do the blanket and hat but she doesnt like to stay wrapped in the blanket and she manages to get her arms and legs out of it. I just feel bad because I'm wearing a thick jacket and then she is in a light fleece, I definitely don't think she is warm enough. I may end up going for a thicker jacket thats not too puffy.

If it's really a short walk she will be fine in fleece. I usually put a hat and fleece on LO and keep a blanket in the car like @Thehistoryofus: and @pointybird:

ETA: Fleece is okay in the carseat as long as it's not super bulky. Bulky jackets (like puffy coats) cause problems.

When she was little, I would just have a blanket in the car and wrap it around her for the short walk into the building.

Now at toddler age, I just have a light fleece on her and a warm hat. I figure for those few seconds, as long as she has a hat she'll stay pretty warm.

We are struggling with this too! So I have no real advice, just sympathy. I have mostly just been putting a jacket on her to walk to the car, taking it off at the car, and putting it back on when we get to wherever we're going. What a pain.

But sometimes I get lazy and just bring a thick blanket and wrap that around her, instead of getting her in and out of her coat. I only do this if she's only going to be outside for a minute (like a walk from the car to daycare) and I make sure she's wearing a hat!

I'm having a hard time keeping up with the no puffy jackets in the carseat thing. So far my 7 month old doesnt have any real jackets for daycare. she jas fleece hoodies and fleece coat but thats about it. When I get to daycare and I take her out of the carseat I dont think she is warm enough for that short walk from the car to the daycare. Today I actually took the whole carseat in, but that can be a bit of a hassle. How are you guys dealing with no jacket in the carseat.
