It depends on the seat, I believe britax is hand wash only, chicco and graco can go in the washing machine, diono can only go in a washing machine without a agitator. I don't think any can go in the dryer. You should never submerge the straps or hose down the entire seat. If your manual isn't clear or you are unsure you can call the manufacturer - just be sure to speak with a tech and not just a customer service rep!

The sun will help a ton with smells and stains!

Cleaning car seats sucks - good luck!

I'd refer to the manufacturers instructions. That alone should be your only guide because what is safe for one seat isn't safe for others.

Thank god this has only happened once. I wiped off as much as I could with damp towels. Then washed the whole seat cover in the washing machine according to the instructions (such a pain getting it off and back on). Straps I just had to wipe as best I could with a wet washcloth- you aren't supposed to get them soaked or use anything but very mild detergent.

It sucks.

Wipe out down as well as I can, but if it's really bad I have put it in the gentle cycle and then air dry. I think most companies say not to use the washing machine but getting the cover off in the first place was such a pain in the ass that I refused to hand wash it.

I hand washed the cover in the bath tub and laid it flat to dry. Then I cleaned the main part with a mild detergent by hand. It was a royal nuisance.

Ugh. Story of my dang life. In the moment, we just hose it down as best we can with clorox wipes/paper towels + 409 but once we are home we usually use detergent and let it air dry. The worst is when the foam gets it, it can stink for weeks. Hope your LO feels better... my kid pukes cause he hates being rear facing so its constant.

Hose it down! I think its ok to use a mild detergent on the seat cover fabric but nothing abrasive on the straps.

What do you use to remove vomit from your carseats? We have been pretty lucky with not having too many vomit sessions in the car but my husband went to pick up our lo from daycare early today because she wasn't feeling well. 2 minutes into the car and she vomited 3 times. He's already stripped it apart and asked me how to clean it.

In the past I have used a very small amount of Dawn and water. And let it air dry out back (thankfully it's warm and dry here right now!)

How do you clean your carseats after vomit happens?
