It's been up for over a year and I recommend it highly. I'm not sure what the difference is between a pet gate and child gate either, but we haven't had any safety problems with DS and the gate. I think it is actually just a pet gate, not a baby gate (but whats the difference!?) I really liked it and a friend even ended up getting it for her baby. We soley used it for our dog so we never used the small pet walk through but it seemed like it would work just fine. It's a baby gate with a cat door. We didn't get this exact one, but something similar. DH ordered a gate for our stairway 42" at the bottom with the baseboards/44" at the top and there is no way our fat cat can get over or through it to go downstairs where the litter is. </p>
