Agree with pp's, a trip to the vet to check out any infections would be the first step. He also may be smelling something in the house he doesn't like. Anytime our cats don't like the smell of something they pee on it. We've lost a couple smelly shoes that way. I would suggest wiping things down (walls, floors, etc...) with a vinegar solution. It will neutralize any odors (including the new cat urine) and will give you a clean slate. Normal cleaners don't do anything for cat urine. Vinegar works great!

Thanks ladies! Anything urine related (with him) scares me because he has Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease ... He's been on prescription food for about 4 years now, and is doing awesome ... so when he did that this morning, it freaked me out!

You can take him to the vet to rule out any health issues, but it sounds like it's most likely behavioral. The vet will probably also recommend Feliway. The one we used is a plug-in, kind of like a plug-in air freshener only this one has cat pheromones to relax them.

I would first call the vet and possibly take him in to rule out any health issues that might be hiding. The vet might be able to recommend something if it is indeed behavioral, and he might calm down in a few weeks once he's used to the new surroundings.

@blackbird: I've never heard of it. Do you spray it on the cat? The wall?

I would never suggest giving up a kitty :)

Have you tried Feliway? it's a cat calming spray/phermone thing. My vet recommends it and I've definitely used it a few times. It'd be a good start with the stressfulness of a new home!

First, I need to start off by saying that getting rid of our cat is not an option ... Please be kind with responses.

This morning, I saw my cat spray urine onto a wall, for the first time!! It was the wall that faces our neighbors house (who has a cat that sits in their windows all of the time).

Let me back up a bit ... He's 8 years old, neutered, and for the most part, a great cat. We just moved into a new home (which we thought he would LOVE), and he seems very unhappy. We previously lived downtown in an upstairs apartment with no outside access for him. Now, there are stray cats, neighbor cats, etc. everywhere (which I think is causing the issue).

He runs around the house at night (loudly, jumping on and off things), meows oddly, and now, is spraying! After cleaning up the pee, and crating him for 20 minutes (so he'd calm down), I let him out, and he came over and pooped right by my chair!!!

I assume this is all behavioral. Is it worth a visit to the vet? I know cats are insanely finicky, and the move might have stressed him, but we aren't going anywhere, and we wouldn't consider giving him away or putting him down.

Anyone deal with an issue like this? Helpful advice is greatly appreciated!
