@loveisstrange: I would love to know the answer to that! We want a puppy, but I think we may wait until we're in a house to get one (I want a French bull dog, so def could be an apt dog, just think it would be better once we have more space), but I need a new pet before that, not sure if it's too hard on a cat to get adjusted to a dog once they're older or if you need to introduce them to a dog while still a kitten. Do you have any friends with dogs that could bring them over to see how Stanley reacts?

@loveisstrange: our dog and cat get a long great. I think they enjoy each other's company. The spend the days together in the living room and we've never had an issue with them. They are both male and do like to wrestle with each other a lot. The cat can take down our 55 pound dog!

Has your cat ever been around a dog? Does he seem to be ok with them? Our cat lived at my parents' house the first couple months and was exposed to several dogs and I think that helped a lot.

We were thinking of getting a puppy, instead of another cat. Do you think that's a really terrible idea?

Aww, how sad! Definitely sounds depressed. A friend of mine had a cat that was depressed and they gave him an anti depressant, it worked wonders! A new companion for him once you're settled might also be nice. I hope Stanley feels better soon! I'm very sorry about Oliver <3

Aw...poor kitty. I agree that he might really benefit from another cat. He sounds pretty lonely. :(

It sounds like he might be feeling some loneliness/grieving to me. If we have to leave our cat at home for a weekend/week (with a caretaker stopping in to see him once a day) he is always really clingy when we get home and wanders/meows all night long the first couple of nights. I think he misses us and our dog a lot (even though he is very independent) when we are gone and looks for us at night when we are sleeping.

If it seems like he really likes the companionship, maybe a new kitten would be a good idea after you move.

I'm sad for your loss though...and I'm sure it's so hard to see Stanley like that!

Oh poor Stanley :-( and poor you, losing a cat is so hard. I would second the suggestion of another cat. We lost one of our cats last summer, and our remaining cat was very clingy. I was totally devastated and just couldn't think of getting another one for awhile, but we finally ended up getting two sibling kittens, and our older cat is obsessed. He loves them so much, it's very sweet. I think the companionship really helped.

That is so sad! It certainly sounds like he is still grieving. Would you consider another cat after your move? Maybe he really misses the feline company.

We got a kitten when C was 4 months old His name is Stanley. He's always been pretty friendly and loving, he almost acts like a dog. We thought he was lonely and could use a buddy so about 2 months later we got another kitten, Oliver. Oliver was only 2 months younger than Stanley. They got used to each other pretty quickly and they were buddies. About a year later, this past November, Oliver passed away suddenly. The vet thinks he had a heart abnormality and his little heart just failed on him and he died.

Stanley showed all the typical signs of grief: wandering the house, meowing loudly, very clingy with us, etc. The thing is... it hasn't stopped. It's been 4 months. We're sort of at a loss. He is still wandering around meowing loudly at all hours and being very clingy.

We're moving to another country next month and we're worried he's going to be totally traumatized.

Im not sure what to do about him. Is he still grieving for our other cat?
