I hadn't lived in my hometown in about 10 years as well, but the priest knew my parents and sister, so it was fine. We flew in a week before the baptism and took a class with the godparents. It's a small town and I'm really really hoping the priest (who knows his extended family pretty well) will realize how special it'd be. They only do it for alums or connected folks but it was a lot easier for our extended family. I also have a cousin in CA who was baptized in my grandmas church in NJ for similar reasons to yours. So it sounds like you or DH's family need to talk to his church and hope they go for it! Good luck! </p> https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/catholic-bees-baptizing-lo-outside-your-parish#post-590561 Sun, 24 Feb 2013 20:22:41 +0000 wheres_c 590561@https://boards.hellobee.com/ <p>We just moved an hour from our previous town, and I've been spending the past week or so looking for a church that will baptise LO.<br /> One thing I've learned is there are no hard and fast rules across the religion.<br /> Many of the obstacles I faced were:<br /> *6 month attendance requirement<br /> *must be registered parishners<br /> *must donate more than we are able<br /> *must be married (we're not)<br /> *must take a class<br /> *only does baptisms once a month and dates didn't work.</p> <p>I *finally* found a great church that told me that there were no rules as long as we spoke to the father and asked him.<br /> We went to mass today and spoke to him and he's willing to do it whenever we are able!</p> <p>So what I've learned in my search is that each churches rules are different and there is some level of flexibility. We didn't have any problems having Chloe Baptised at my home Church, which is the same Church I made all of my Sacraments! </p> <p>For what it's worth, we did not have to take any classes with the Godparents or have any paper work signed. They didn't say anything about not being allowed to register if you didn't live in the area. DH would like to have LO baptized in the church he was baptized in, in his hometown, with all his family there. I'm totally on board, it would be amazing if his family could be there. </p> <p>Does anyone know if this is possible? We were able to get married in his hometown, outside our parish, so DH really thinks it'd work out. I hope so, but I haven't heard back from the parish in his hometown yet. </p>
