My cat has never tried to get in Baby's crib. I purposely kept furniture away from the crib so she wouldn't have a launching pad. She only goes into Baby's room when I'm there. Mostly to meow really loudly and wake baby up when I'm nursing her to sleep. Grrrrr.

I will have to try this foil trick!!! I think the cats knew it was not ok to jump on crib or changing table from the start. The diva cat is almost 20 lbs and can barely jump, so I wasn't worried about her!

I have two cats: one cat (diva) hated baby the minute she saw him, the other cat (sweet) is always on security detail - likes to make sure baby is ok. A couple of nights ago LO cooed and sweet cat mewed back and forth until he passed out.

After the first couple days we stopped worrying about getting hairs on him. One cat loves hanging out with him, hangs out on the changing table (now if I could just get her to change his diapers), and rarely ever goes in the crib and only when he's awake.

Another cat took about 3 months, and will now sit on the chair in the nursery, but avoids the baby. Our third cat ignores him and seems to pretend he doesn't exist.

We do have a litter box in the nursery, we have a small house with very few places to keep them- if it becomes a problem we will move it later, but we clean it every day. My brother and I never got into the litter boxes when we were kids, so I'm not worrying about it until it becomes an issue.

We have 2 cats and when we prepped the nursery they would go in the nursery, and jump on the changing table and the crib.

So a little trick, you take aluminium paper, put a large piece in places you don't want the cats to go. They jumped in it once or twice and got soooo scared they never went back! :)

I read that if you line the baby's crib with foil, it'll scare the beejeezus out of any unsuspecting cat who jumps into the crib.

I left my dog in CA with my family when I moved to GA, but when my LO and I visited it was really stressful for me. My dog's hair gets every where and I really didn't want the fur getting in my LO's eyes, mouth or nose. I felt really bad for my dog, but we put a gate up so he couldn't get in the room we were staying in.
I could never have a shedding animal in the house with LOs. I'd go crazy. Esp during the crawling and put everything in my mouth stages.

The second the crib went up the cats jumped in. I'd shoo them out when I would catch them, but I wouldn't always catch them. So I got a net to put over it while we wait for LO's arrival. I also bought the AngelCare monitor that will alarm if the weight inside the crib changes. My cats are really skiddish and I feel like they'll keep away from him.
You can also get a CatScram - it's a little box that transmits noise that humans can't hear but drives cats nuts. I have one in my foyer because I don't want them at the downstairs doors. My oldest cat tried it once and it really spazzed her out. It's been 4 years and she never tried it again.

@mrbee, haha, Now that I think about it, Rusty was verrrry scared of my friend's 10 month old. Wouldn't go near her, even to pick up a fishytreat.

we only have one cat now (had two until recently) and she does go into both charlie and olive's room, but never ever into their cribs. she's scared of charlie! we always leave the room doors open.

i guess it depends on the cat. :)

Just wondering -- for those with a cat/cats -- do you allow your cats to go in and out of the baby's room? I assume you wouldn't when the baby is in there sleeping--in case the cat were to lay on the baby or something. But what about the rest of the time? I could just picture my cats sleeping in the baby's crib...lol! Would you leave the door to the room shut all the time, or what?

Also, do you worry much about their hair? I try to keep a clean home, but with two cats, there is ALWAYS fur around anyway. Toddlers/babies are sticky! I'm always embarrassed when my friends' kids leave with a bit of cat fur stuck to their hands or faces, haha.

(No, I'm not pregnant. These are the things I think about in the evening though, lol.)
