If they had said "Hey, we can't leave &lt;dog's name&gt; home all day, is it okay if we bring him?" I probably would've said yes, even though I don't really like dogs AND I'm allergic. But they didn't even tell me! They just showed up and suddenly there were dogs in my house! But all of those animals are not dogs and are perfectly happy to be left alone for hours on end. Dogs however, are pack animals and do not like to be alone all day and all night. It's not a very nice thing to do to the dog to leave them for that long since they get lonely. </p> <p>And I'm not talking about stopping by someone's house on a Saturday afternoon for a couple hours, when you're otherwise home most of the day. In those cases, of course leave the dog at home. The times I've been really upset were Christmas day (because to me she is my family I want to celebrate with her, not leave her alone all day if I don't have to) and recently when we went to MIL's house after work, which we were going out of our way to do and were gone most of the day and all evening. Just because you can bring your kids to my house if I invite your family, doesn't mean you can bring your pets! Don't you think it would be weird if you invited me over and I brought my pet gerbal, hamster, bird, and three cats?
