@NorthStar: Thanks for the explanation! I emailed my doctor about adding AMH. I am slightly concerned about prolactin since I did bf my son for 14 months but I have very regular periods, so I am not sure.

I would insist on AMH. It is always done together with FSH and tells more of a complete picture. For progesterone, there is no sense in doing it until 7 days after you ovulate (or something like that - my memory is fuzzy). The purpose of the progesterone test is to see if you are ovulating on your own and producing enough progesterone. Doing it on day 3 does nothing for that since you shouldn't be ovulating until approximately day 14-18.

My cycle day 3 bloodwork wasn't part of my initial workup, they just do it at the start of a treatment cycle, but they only check fsh and estradiol.

My initial bloodwork was later in my cycle and that's when they checked amh, TSH, rubella, prolactin, etc. I also had an antral follicle count scan as well. After this, plus the hsg, saline ultrasound, and semen analysis, is when they diagnosed us as unexplained.

I only get bloodwork for progesterone when I go in for pregnancy tests.

If you’re going to a regular OB, they are unlikely to test for AMH. An RE definitely would- along with antral follicle count.

@Shantuck: Nope, never been tested for AMH. On one hand, I am glad I have fewer tests to pay for but I am also worried they will miss something.

I had an antral follicle count as well. I thought that AMH and Fsh can go hand in hand and that both are checked in a basic workup (though if you’ve already done it before, they likely wouldn’t need to retest).

@Shantuck: hmmm...my doctor did an ultrasound of my ovaries, so maybe that's why she didn't include AMH.

My doctor is only testing FSH, estradoil, and TSH when I do my CD 3 labs. I am surprised that progesterone and prolactin aren't included. What were you tested for?
