My son has extra ammonia -full pee so I have to do a cold cycle (no detergent) hot soak cycle with rocking green hard rock (it soaks for 30 minutes before finishing the cycle) and another cycle on warm with no detergent.

I use lots of different brand diapers but wash all the same. Cold wash (no detergent), hot sanitize wash with detergent with extra rinse, then at least two extra rinses. Today my diapers were smelly so were doing an extra hot cycle.

Those are the same diapers I use/used! I do a cold rinse, a hot wash with tide powder, then dry on medium or outside. I don't do another rinse

The newborn BG diapers aren't very absorbent-E peed through them early on, too.

I puffy heart our free times though

@JoJoGirl: The closest is about an hour away, I've got about 17 so far so we'll just play it by ear. Its always nice to hear others stories, thank you. I've got 1/2 of my freetimes and had another mom tell me this as well so we decided to wait until after to buy the rest.

Yes, cold rinse with no detergent, the hot wash and extra rinse with detergent.

One word of caution: before LO I had the same plan you did, BG newborns and then freetimes. Spent all this money on the BG rental and guess what - they don't fit her! We dealt with leak after leak until we finally gave up and are using disposables for now til she hits 12 lbs. Then we'll go put the freetimes ON HER to see how they fit before investing. You may be better off waiting for her to get here then seeing if you can put some on - is there a CD store near you?

ETA: We brought the BGs to the store to see if they had advice about the fit.. once she hit 8 lbs they did fit okay (she was born 6 lb 8 oz and they were huge on her) but they were not absorbant enough and she kept getting pee-splosions up her back. Ick.

My LO is due in September and we are using bumgenius newborn diapers and then freetimes.

I've got both used and new diapers what do I need to do to get them ready? What about once baby's here, how do I clean them?

I realize I'm a total newbie so tell me how you do it but here's where I have researched so far.

It looks like from here: http://www.cottonbabies.com/blog/2011/06/cloth-diapers-101-how-to-prep-your-cloth-diapers.html
I just need to wash them once and they'll be ready to go.

To wash them (http://www.cottonbabies.com/clothdiapers.php#detergent):
1.Cold wash with detergent
2. Warm or hot wash with detergent
3. Extra rinse
I thought I'd read online only one wash needs detergent but that Is not what this is saying. Please HELP!
