I love prefolds, which I found surprising, I was expecting to prefer pockets and aios. We actually just have the regular, non-stay dry osocozys. I cut up fleece from the craft store to use as liners, and it also acts as a stay dry layer. I've been very happy with the osocozy brand, and I also appreciate that they're cheaper than gmd.

We use the flip covers and we like them but my elastic has definitely stretched more than I anticipated. We use their stay dry inserts and really like them but microfiber requires more maintenance than prefolds. We are still using our osocozy infant prefolds at 21 months, if we will be gone for awhile I add a hemp doubler. They are definitely worth buying!

@LindsayLou: I was just about to ask about those...the store were using sells them & I like that they're stay dry. Good to know they've lasted that long for you! Going to pick one up today to give it a try.

Has anyone tried the flip newborn inserts, or would you recommend I go straight to prefolds? They're about the same price for us.

@atoz: We use osocozy better fit prefolds trifolded in our covers and they work great. We're still using the infant size at 10 months. I have some gmd smalls I picked up used, and they're still a bit long, so we haven't used them yet.

@atoz: I have a ton of GMD prefolds and I think I am going to use them more this time. They do take awhile to soften up though. Maybe you can buy some that have already been prepped/used so they will be softened nicely?

I like the way the flip covers fit my big guy. I use a mix of them with pre folds (not sure what they are exactly because I got them 2nd hand) and bg4.0. everything has held up well so far.

@atoz: yeah, I'd try the prefolds. Very cost-effective and no annoying fold over the backside.

@LindsayLou: @Iced Tea: @Baby Boy Mom: @Mrs. Lion: Thanks for sharing your experiences! It sounds like my feelings about Flip quality in the long term were on track.

Did you use different size inserts for your LO as they grew? We have the one size Flip inserts in there now and my husband jokes that she looks like a gladiator ready for battle. I was thinking about trying GMD prefolds or OsoCozy Better Fit Stay Dry prefolds to see if that helps with the bulk. (I've heard that the Flip newborn inserts are a little too small & thin for most babies past 3 months.)

I'm just trying to keep costs down...finances were one of the reasons we wanted to cloth diaper in the first place, and it adds up quickly!

I like the flip covers but not flip inserts. I prefer charcoal bamboo inserts that are the right size with no folding :)

I also have a Grovia One and it works great overnight. It was one of the very few solutions that works overnight for my girl. She even peed through disposables, but never through that one!

We started with OS diapers at 10ish lbs and they still fit my 30 lb 3 year old at night time. He still wears the flips to bed.

With my boys I primarily used flip covers with gmd prefolds. I have mixed feelings because they were great for a while. I used them for about 3 years total. By the second year the elastic was getting loose and at the end the pul just stopped working altogether. But I feel like the quality of cotton babies has gone way down, and diapers I got two years ago are in the same condition as ones I got five years ago, so there's that.

Between those two, I would likely go with the Capri covers since they seem more durable. The elastic on the flips are well known for stretching out.

When my baby was small, I really liked the flip inserts because of the trimness. But after she became mobile and wanted to get changed standing up, I started to dislike dealing with two separate pieces. It is hard to keep them together while changing a moving kid.

Right now my LO is 16 months and 21 lbs. We currently prefer training pants or AIOs. If we use AI2, we use thirsties covers (easier to quickly get on and off moving kid) with a trifolded prefold.

We have a mix of Buttons, Best Bottom, and Thirsties covers in our main rotation. Plus a few by Rumparooz, Stashologie, and some pocket diapers by Funky Fluff and some Chinese cheapie pockets.

The two sizes of Thirsties do make it a little easier to get a good (snug, but not too tight) fit, but I don't like the way they snap up around the waist. Funky Fluff and Stashologie have the best snap arrangement for a good waist fit on my (tall, thin) baby.

My absolute favorite inserts are the bamboo ones by Funky Fluff, with these https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SKKPMIC/ as a close runner up.

I added snaps to all of the inserts and covers I have that didn't already come with them. I have a wriggly baby who has always fought diaper changes. I can't imagine how I would get the diaper on if everthing weren't connected. We would always be trying to straighten out the insert from the waist/leg holes after the cover was on before I added snaps to our snapless things

We use covers and inserts during the day, and all in ones at night. We have a mishmash of brands and systems, but most of the time we use flip covers and prefolds. I've tried and disliked snap in inserts (buttons brand, similar to best bottoms, snapping them in felt unnecessary) flip inserts (they shifted around too much), and pocket diapers (I loathe them).

As for covers, I've tried flips, 4.0s, grovia, thirsties, buttons, swaddle bees, alvas, and fuzzibunz. Flips are what I have the most of, and what I prefer. They're easy to use, seem to hold up pretty well, and we can get a good fit with them. However, some of our elastics aren't great after 10 months of use. They're easy to replace, and still have some life left, but I'd rather not have to.

My little one is 10 months, about 20 lbs and 28 inches tall. On our flips, we currently have the rise snaps on the medium setting and the waist snaps on the second smallest setting--kiddo is very active and slim, she briefly went up a waist setting from 4 to 6 months. Flips have fit well since she was a few weeks old and i expect them to continue to fit well until she potty trains. I also plan to use these same diapers for at least one more baby.

To the cloth diapering mamas out there...
I'm currently finishing up a cloth diaper trial with a local store and we've decided on an AI2 system. I'm torn between getting the Flip covers with Flip inserts and the blueberry Capri covers with Flip inserts. The Capris are a little bit more expensive but the quality feels better to me. Tell me about your AI2 system! What do you use? What do you like & dislike about it?

Ages & weight ranges for your little one would be helpful if you're able to include it. My little one is currently seven weeks old and 12 1/2 pounds.
