CJ's BUTTer is cloth safe and can be used in place of Vaseline, that's what we did!

@ShootingStar: no advice on the CD part, but here is my understanding:

Usually the pediatrician does the circ. Gomco tends to be the "older way" of circumcising, plastibell is the "newer" (I don't think they've found one is better than the other) and usually the Dr knows one way or the other. So, if the pedi on that day does Gomco and you want plastibell, just decline and have it done in the office with a pediatrician that does plastibell. Does that make sense? At least that is how it works at our hospitals, but you can always ask before hand!

We just used a gauze square over his penis after applying Vaseline and had no issue with our cloth diapers.

@Ash: Oh I'm glad to hear you say that. I was trying to read about the differences and I felt like maybe it was a silly/selfish thing to do to request the plastibell if it wasn't the safest/best option, just for the sake of my diapers.

I'm not sure who will be doing it, in our infant care class they said our OB would, but I see the midwives at my practice. Unless I need a c-section, and then one of 2 OBs would perform it. I had kind of assumed someone on the hospital staff would do it. Yet another question to add to my list for tomorrow's appointment.

I would think you could request a plastibell be used rather than the gomco that requires the vaseline (it all depends on the doc that does the circ). Otherwise, I'd think t-shirt liners would suffice. :)

We covered with gauze, and I think we only had to apply Vaseline for the first week or two.

@ShootingStar: we did not circumcise but I'd imagine you could use tshirt liners.

You are supposed to put vaseline on and then cover with gauze - I imagine the gauze will partially protect your CD?

So at our infant care class a few days ago they mentioned that as part of circumcision care you may need to keep the area covered in vaseline. I think I knew that, but suddenly it hit me that vaseline and CDs are not a good combo.

We have a stash of newborn sized diapers and would like to use them. So how do I get around the vaseline issue? Do we just use liners? Is there another way to care for it? Should I ask for the bell thing that falls off (and doesn't require vaseline or gauze)?

Anyone have experience with this?
