We've never had blowouts with CD's either (and have had quite a few with sposies). We love that there are no chemicals against DS, and they are SO CUTE.

@Mrs. Pen: your LO must have magic poops :)

@DigAPony: that is a great point..A professor I had taught a class where you had to carry all your trash with you for a month, kind of mind blowing.

My baby isn't here yet, but I am stocking up on all my CD supplies and am really excited! My biggest motivator right now is the environmental aspect. Something clicked a few years ago when I read/heard somewhere, "Every disposable diaper that has ever been used is currently sitting in a landfill somewhere." That's an obvious statement, but just the simple phrasing/idea hit home with me.

Since I plan on having more than one child, I'm also excited about the money we'll save in the long run.

- Keeping chemicals off my kiddo's most sensitive skin.
- NO TRASH... cannot stand the stench and constant having to take the trash out, I'd much rather do laundry.
- The blowouts. We had a blowout with almost every poop he ever did in a disposable in the early months... the force could just not be contained no matter what brand or size or whatever.
- They're cuter/don't have the chemical smell.
- Yeah yeah and I guess the environmental thing too ;)

I love our gDiapers. They give us the best of cloth and the convienance of 100% biodegradable disposables. If energy costs weren't so high here, I would consider going with just cloth.

For me, the #1 reason is environment. It actually stresses me out to think about the number of disposables in landfills. That said, I did contribute quite a bit to the landfill since we didn't start LO in CDs until she was 9 months old. I had everything ready to go from before her birth, but with apartment living and PPD and just general difficulty coming to terms with the demands of parenthood, I kept putting it off.

Well, I'm so glad I got over that because I love them now. I don't want to go all evangelical, but if/when people ask about them, I do try to emphasize how easy the whole process really is, compared to how people fear it might be.

I love my cloth diapers! Ilove the money savings, the ability to reuse if we have another child, not having a diapers fill up my garbage can, and that they are so cute. Plus I find doing diaper laundry kind of theraputic.

I love my cloth diapers for many, many reasons, but a big, BIG one for me is that we have no garbage pick-up. We burn all our trash on a big pile out back. And sposies do. not. burn. They melt a little, they smolder, but they don't burn into ash. Then the dogs get into the pile and drag blackened sposies all over the place. No thank you. For me cloth, diapering is nearly a necessity.
Plus, I think they're cute and hanging them out to dry gives me a very wholesome and satisfied feeling.

Less pee/poop stink-cotton just soaks it up but I feel like the smell is amplified in disposables. It seems more pungent

No chemicals-sensitive skin issues over here

I feel safer-I always felt like I was gonna get pooped on with a disposable. Like there isn't enough there. A cotton diaper feels nice and sturdy and protective

They're just softer and more pleasant IMO. I don't CD for the Eco/green factors at all. I'm sad she will be in disposables at daycare :p

@swurlygurl: @scg00387: I don't really think they're cute, either. And I hate how they fit under clothes! LO has a few pieces of clothing that he's never worn because they're not cut wide enough to fit over CDs. So sad.

I feel like we've saved a ton of money with our CDs. We got a one size fits all adjustable diapers so we bought 25 and they lasted til LO was potty trained. I also don't think they significantly increase my laundry load. I feel like I always have a ridiculous amount of laundry so a few more loads per week was easy to handle, especially if you just did it from the get go. Plus we are big on recycling so it just makes me feel good to CD. It did help that my hubby was on board with it, and I was able to find a homecare that was enthusiastic about using CDs!

@swurlygurl: nah I don't think they're super cute (or at least most of them). I much prefer the fit of cute clothes over disposies but that's not a deciding factor for us!! And YES it will be awesome to not buy any more diapers for LO#2!

Our biggest reason to CD is because DD is allergic to something in disposables. Secondly my husband's work clothes are covered in things so much more disgusting than poop (think petroleum, gear grease, etc.) that it's not even weird for me to do. The cost savings are nice too and the smell of Pampers made me want to vomit.

@Navy_Mommy: I also think disposables stink horribly! DH put DD in a disposable because he didn't feel like stuffing a CD *rolling my eyes*, and I was checking her every 10 minutes because I could have sworn she smelled like chemically pee.

#1 reason is cost. I want to have 3-4 kids, so if we could make them last for all kids - holy cost savings!!!

I feel like I'm the only person that doesn't think CDs are cute though...

Sposies smell!! The one time we used them when we flew across the country I kept thinking he has pooped, but he hadn't! And I wasn't crazy, DH noticed it too. Since then we've flown 2 more times and we continued to use cloth while we traveled.

Cost. We COULD afford to use sposies, but it would seriously hurt our budget.

Chemicals. The idea of rubbing my son's boy bits with chemicals 24/7 doesn't sit well with me.

Cloth helps make babies and toddlers put together the sensation of needing to pee and the resulting wetness, which can be a great aid in toilet learning. Ellie was in underwear full time at age two on the nose, and only ever had two accidents. Lorelei can already tell you when she needs to pee and poop (but is pretty uninterested in the potty after several successful uses, so we are holding off for now).

@Mrsbells: I also had blowouts with disposables, and i don't think it's because of newbie parenting. It wasn't through the legs (which the ruffles would prevent) but up the back, even when i had it tight across the belly/back. Sometimes you just can't fight the force of a baby's poop.

Cost and cuteness. I never went crazy with cute patterns but loved seeing tush covered in bright coloured diapers. We use disposables at daycare to make things easier, but they go through so many that i balk at how much we spend on diapers.

We use both (sposies at night) but I love cloth for the cuteness, comfort for LO, and the fact that you'll never have that panicked feeling when you've run out of diapers. I also love that there are so many options when it comes to your comfort level with cloth. We use gDiapers and I love that depending on our activity that day we can choose and flushable liner, flushable sheet over cloth, or cloth liner on it's own.

I was much mor comfortable with the idea of a one time, larger up front cost than having to constantly shell out money for diapers. We used the pack that the hospital sent home with us in less than 2 days!? That right there solidified my choice. I couldn't imagine having to make a special trip to the store for dipes.

I get blowouts WAY more with disposables. We use fitteds, and the elastic around the top holds in the poo much better than sposies. But I still have blowouts with cloth sometimes, too. I think my LO is just a force-pooper ;)

I do love my cloth diapers! For us, it's way cheaper because if we were to use disposables, I would use the Nature Babycare eco-friendly ones and those aren't cheap. And he ALWAYS poops in a fresh diaper, so I change him a lot. Right now our utilities are included, so there's no extra cost from water or electricity usage. AND we got a lot of our stash as baby gifts.

I love cloth mostly for the reusable factor. We had to use disposables for about 2.5 months (b/c of washing machine issues), so we've gotten both sides of the coin. I hated buying disposable diapers over and over and over again. Also, I found it beyond gross that we had a pail of poop inside our house each week. Gah - I'm much happier cleaning off the diaper right away and then washing them after a few days.

Also, our months in disposables showed far more poop-on-the-clothes incidents. Not blow-outs per say, but definitely up the back action :)

FWIW I've only had 2 blowouts with cloth, both when he was <3 weeks old and the thigh fit wasn't quite right yet. I've also had 2 blowouts with disposables, but I rarely use them.

I love the cute colors and the extra padding his tush gets when he falls. We hit the "broke even" point several months ago (although it helps that we don't pay for our water here). I feel good not adding disposables to a landfill, and we've only had one diaper rash problem in 10 months.
