I started Paige off with cheerios with a splash of milk. Then added more and more and more until now she can eat a bowl of cereal with milk. She still dibbles, but that's what those awesome catch bibs are for! I also give her a small spoon that's deep enough. Some kid's spoons are too flat to use for milk and cereal. Paige will now eat cheerios, kix, and chex cereal. We leave them out in one of those clear containers to preserve freshness and she gets to choose what she wants. On days she's being particularly fussy, I'll use chocolate milk and then it's game over. She'll eat 10 bowls if I let her.

@shopaholic: I started letting H eat cereal with milk at 13+ months because she has always liked the plain Cheerios as a dried snack. I feed it to her and she dips her hands in to get more to feed herself. She is great with a fork but not a spoon yet. So it does get messy but nothing too crazy. However, she's decided she doesn't like the plain Cheerios anymore. Tonight I fed her honey nut Cheerios with milk since I was eating it and she gobbled it up.

@Arden: Haha, I only just gave L yogurt to self-feed yesterday because I fear the mess of these foods!

18 months and no desire to start any time soon - poor girl is going to be so far behind in her cereal-eating skills. Although, we're not cereal people and she drinks plenty of milk, so it probably will be a really long time before she ever gets any :/

I give her dry cheerios and yogurt together. I've tried the health food brand cereals but once she tried cheerios she was hooked :-) At 18 months I would spoon feed her cheerios and milk but she can feed herself yogurt and cereal. She'd want to commandeer the spoon and I can't handle the mess, plus I don't give her cows milk yet anyway.
