@deerylou: Yep! :D Your body and your baby will know when she's ready to come out.

@FarmWifeGina: Thank you for that! My doctor could tell I was a little deflated this morning, so she said that while I could remain pregnant for another week, or two, I could just as easily go into labor this evening. Luckily, I'm still feeling pretty good, so I think I just need to be patient and wait for DD to comfortably make her debut.

@deerylou: I think maybe the color doesn't matter as much as it's different for everyone, but mucous with it makes it bloody show. Also, you can go from having a high and tight, completely posterior cervix to having a baby in your arms in 12 hours, I'm not even kidding. And then other women walk around at 4 cm. dilated and 80% effaced at 37 weeks and still end up going to 42 weeks. So, take heart in the fact that dilation means NOTHING! Not even once you're in labor, it's a poor indicator of progress/time.

@Bookworm: Perhaps! My check today wasn't even a sweep (I wasn't open enough), so she just did a rough check. Sigh....

@deerylou: yeah I was pretty convinced that it was my show, buut a week later, nothing. Supposedly it works for a lot of people though, so maybe your show will lead to something!! :)

Thanks, ladies. I just keep hearing conflicting info. Like, brown = spotting, red = show, or the other way around. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm so bummed I'm not further along on my due date - was hoping for some progress! :)

I commented a bit on the July thread but I'll add that after my sweep I bled for about 6hrs and passed a large clot. I didn't worry since it got progressively less of a flow over the hours, and I haven't had any spotting since. After todays check I have had some cramping.

Beings it's bright red, I would say that it's probably from the cervical check. But if it was a "rough" check, it could be just as effective as a membrane sweep, provided your body is ready. :) Good luck! Your bloody show should show up accompanied with some mucus and some of it may be bright red, but there should be some darker red/brown streaks too. Believe it or not, I've had 2 kids and never actually seen my bloody show. Lots of mucous in early labor, but never any show that I've noticed.

Today was my 40 week appointment, and I had my third cervical check - I'm still only about 1.5 cm dilated and 60% effaced. The doctor wasn't able to sweep my membranes, but is hoping to do so next week.

I've been having bright red, light bleeding for the past four hours since the exam - it's a little "clotty" and I'm experiencing cramps like my period is about to come. Baby is still bouncing around just fine, and otherwise I feel normal.

How do I know the difference between average spotting after a check, and bloody show? This is the first time I've seen any blood since my last period before getting pregnant, so it's bizarre.

Thanks!
