I don't think I was even 2cm dilated and not really effaced. They gave me a small (quarter?) dose vaginally at 8am Saturday morning, another one later that day and a third (still small) dose at 8am Sunday morning. Active labor kicked in HARD one hour after that third dose and LO was born at 1pm. No pitocin or epidural needed. (I REALLY wanted to avoid an epidural and was terrified of "pitocin contractions" so I asked to avoid it as much as possible.)</p> <p>Also, they hooked me up to a monitor the first night (pre-cervidil) and checked on me periodically but I don't think they bothered waking me up except for once or twice. I think once they saw it was going to be a slow start they backed off. I didn't get hooked up to a monitor again after that. Also, no IV until I was in active labor when decided I wanted an epidural after all. Turns out I was in transition and they held me to a dose of Fentanyl. I can't even say how much I loved my nurse! I got 2 doses of the vaginal kind. Took around 8 hours total to dilate to 3cm and from there I got epidural and pitocin.</p> <p>ETA I didn't feel much when I was on that. I had 3 rounds of Cervadil- not bad, but they hook you up to an IV and I had to lay prone most of that time and had pressure cuffs on my legs to prevent blood clots, which were annoying every time I had to get up and pee. They placed the Cervadil and Pitocin was started many hours later, after I caught a few hours of sleep. Cervadil was placed overnight and I delivered at ~11 pm the next night. I had no progress. NOTHING. I walked into the hospital, had it inserted at 9pm and by 9 am I was at a 6! I needed Pitocin and an Epidural, but I got to 10 cm by 3pm. I chose the foley bulb, which I kind of regret. But what swayed me against the cervidil is they told me they treat you like you're on medication - so they come in your room every couple of hours to see how you're doing. I didn't really want to spend all night being woken up over and over. (it looked like a sticker on the end of a string). I had it placed around 7/8pm. I rolled over in bed at the hospital around 5am and my water broke. My water had broken like 12 hours before, I had no contractions, and I was maybe 1 cm dialated. I immediately (like within 20 min) started having strong contractions right on top of each other. After an hour or so, they actually had to remove the cervadil because I was contracting too much/hard. Iwas having slight contractions and had cervidil at midnight and 4 am. I got pitocin at 8:30 because the contractions hadn't intensified and had a baby at 2pm. I did not get an epidural. I was checked in with very high BP dilated to maybe 1cm. I had cervadil for 18 hours before pitocin. Then had pitocin for 12 hours before an epidural. Then the epidural for 14 hours before an emergency c-section when DD wasn't reacting well to contractions. I was "almost 1" and 50% effaced when I got my first dose. Ended up needing 1 more dose and a very low dose of pitocin. (Also a foley bulb, since we're talking about things to speed labor up).
