@OurEastAndWest: The OB I had at the time I had it done was generally in a rush all the time and I'm pretty sure that didn't help.

@MenagerieMama: I have no doubt she meant something else but I just was not at all expecting that at the time! I'm both glad to hear and disappointed to hear that it's not a cause of infertility. I figured if a catheter can't make it in than why would it be any different for sperm!? But I guess those guys are quick a bit smaller ha... I will definitely google the names you put, thank you very much!!!

My husband wasn't with me- stupid work emergency!- so I didn't have that extra set of ears to be like, yes she 100% said upside down, but I would've sworn that's what she said!! But either way, it obviously doesn't sit in the correct position.. whatever the heck that means!

@loyo: I normally would've pushed for more info, I'm a big question-asker, but she was a fast talker type ha and by the time I registered what she said she had already moved onto talking about my husband's great sperm and how much of it they had to use ha, so I was concentrating on listening to that part! :silly: He was super concerned that the size of his specimen was so small compared to the cup {to which I thought, thank goodness cause those cups are huge!!} so I was happy I could report back that his swimmers were still going strong!

@MaryM: It really was super painful, especially the first time when my OBGYN did it!! I had been talking with the ultrasound tech about the HSG and that I tend to have a high pain tolerance down there and after that whole ordeal she started clapping, saying she was blown away about how I just handled it! I was just thinking, what choice do I have?! Start running down the hallways with my pants off?? It really, really sucked but honestly this whole freaking process SUCKS.

@Mrs. Pickle: So your doctors never said that it was a factor for infertility for you all?? That's part of what I'm wondering. If it could be another barrier for the sperm to get through and it's a big part of our issue?

That's not possible. She probably meant retroverted, which is just tilted a less common direction, which makes it more difficult for procedures because they're designed for the more "common tilt". If you google anteverted and retroverted cervix you will see what I mean. Either way is perfectly normal and healthy and as far as I know not associated with any fertility issues. One way is just easier to see on a pelvic exam than the other.

Huh? Not heard of it before. Didn't you want to ask her what she meant by an upside down cervix? Am sure I would have insisted on getting an answer to that.Even more interesting its adjustable!
Oh well. Long ceased being amazed at the human body. A lot goes on we have no idea about. Anyway, glad it was repositioned.

Upside down? I'm not even sure that's possible! I know mine isn't straight on. It was hard for the nurse to insert the catheter during my IUIs and my RE had to do a couple practice insertions before my IVF transfers. I can't remember the term, but it wasn't upside down. It wasn't a big deal in my doctor's eyes.

I wonder if she meant it was tilted opposite of what they usually are?

I had that issue when I had an HSG, and it was also incredibly painful. But I'm not sure I've ever heard of one being upside down?

I had my first IUI done yesterday ( :grin: !!!) and when the nurse/PA went to insert the catheter she mentioned something like, 'hold on, your cervix is upside down' and she needed to adjust it to be able to insert the catheter. When I had my HSG test done they didn't say anything that I can recall about it. However, at my follow up appointment with my OBGYN she filled my uterus up with saline to check if the teeny tiny spot on my HSG was a polyp or an air bubble (it was an air bubble) and during that visit she *also* had a hard time inserting the catheter because of my cervix's position. She said that she had to move it around before she would be able to do the insertion- which didn't feel good at alllll let me just tell ya!

Has anyone ever had this experience before?? Also, did anyone have this and find it was the/a reason for their infertility?? Every.single.test. we have had done has come back normal or even great in some cases and so now I'm just wondering if my cervix could be our main issue? {I know that this is probably just hopeful wishing that an IUI is all we will need to conceive ha, but still!}

Anyone familiar with an upside down cervix ha?! :teamgreen:
