Not a fan of chalkboards, but if this is possible in white boards, sounds like a good idea to me!

We have a chalkboard wall in the kitchen and we love it. However, it is dusty, so I would not do it in a carpeted room. But on our kitchen tile, it's not a big deal.

I wouldn't do it if you think you might move sometime in the next year or so. DS is 15m and he still doesn't really get coloring yet. It would be a while before I'd want him to be in his room coloring, especially with chalk.

One thing I love with chalkboard is that the kids can paint with water. Other than a few splotches of water, there's no mess. A friend has a wall in her kitchen that's chalkboard and DS loves to paint when we go there.

@Charm54: True! I love the look of black doors! LO wont be able to use it for a long while so at least it would look good and I could draw something artsy/cute on it for the time being.

If the room has carpet, I wouldn't do it. We have a small magnetic board from Ikea that we spray painted with chalkboard paint in the kitchen. Much easier since it is tile to clean up.

@Mrs. Jacks: The dust is what I am afraid of! Honestly, LO will be so young and likely wont be using it for at least a year+ and who knows - we may move by then!

We just did this and it's working very well! I've been wiping down with a damp cloth once a week and it's great. Most importantly, my son loves it!

Our neighbors did this in their boys' room and there is a certain level of chalk dust in there that I could not tolerate. It felt dirty to me. There was a fine layer of chalk dust everywhere... But maybe they are heavy chalk board users?

I don't have a chalkboard door but I did paint all our main floor doors black and I LOVE it - such a little thing but it made such a huge difference. So I would think chalkboard doors would have the same impact

We are starting on the nursery and we have to paint the closet door (it was original with the home) We replaced all the entry way doors so they are panelled and new. The closet doors are an off white so when you are inside the nursery it contrasts with the white baseboards/ new door....ect.

Point being, now that we are actually going to be using this room we are going to paint the door (possibly get a new one). I was thinking since we are painting it that we would do one side as a chalk board because that seems like a fun addition. That being said, I am worried about the dust and the hassle.

Is this one of those things that looks great on Pinterest and is a total PITA in real life?

I could either do the whole door or partial like these pics ..
