update: we totally planned on bringing champagne with us to the hospital. but my water broke at 1AM and we rushed straight to the hospital. then our first few weeks were so miserable that drinking was so far from our minds.

my first drink was a sip of champagne at my friend's wedding over the weekend. LO was 6 weeks old then.

also jealous of everyone's dinner options!!! I had no options, just soggy luncheon with soggy vegetables. makes me gag just remembering it!!

I voted no, because I don't drink :)

We did at about a month old when we had visitors...I would do it even at the hospital though. The LC who taught our bf'ing class said that as long as you do it right after a feeding and it's A glass of wine not THREE, lol, you're ok.

Just remember that you could be delivering at any time of the day or night after any length of labor though. I delivered at 530am on my 3rd day and the last thing on my mind was champagne....but I'd definitely bring a bottle next time around. :)

I'd definitely go for it!!! Our hospital didn't offer a special dinner and we didn't plan a toast ourselves but I think it would be super special!

Go for it! You most definitely earn it ;)

I don't do well with champagne to begin with (guaranteed hangover for me), but I'm a regular beer and wine drinker. All I wanted after birth was a huge burger, sloppy fries, and a gallon of iced tea.

Not quite a week after birth I finally felt like having a glass of wine or dark beer (I went with the good for milk production theory). I kept my amounts small, and timed it for after a meal, just after breastfeeding, but during pumping so I would relax.

I love champagne but by the time I got to my recovery room I'd slept only about 5hrs in the previous 36hrs...not too mention labor is hard work! I would have been in no shape to drink alcohol. I was on Vicodin, too, which you probably don't want to mix with booze.

I would be totally fine with having a little glass in theory (haven't given birth yet so who knows who I'll really feel!). BUT-- I wouldn't want to open a nice bottle and only be able to have a tiny glass! Unless you have a bunch of people celebrating, so much would have to go to waste.

We do have one of those little bottles that we got at a wedding, so maybe we'll bring that in. We have some nicer bottles that we are saving, like you, but I'm not wasting them when I don't get to drink a lot of it :)

Our birth prep class instructor mentioned a sparkling juice option, but I'm pretty sold on the champagne, already. They have some pretty awesome dinner options (filet mignon, salmon, grilled miso tofu), so I'm sure we'll be happy either way. Our center is known for their food.

The baby eats so little the first day, I doubt it could matter. The sucking is mostly to bring milk in. (But I'm not a dr!)
