Heightened awareness of feminist and gender equality issues, especially in the context of working parents and the rights of women to maintain their careers and financial self-sufficiency.

Honestly, before I had a child I would have rolled my eyes at the notion that it's important to have a female president for any reason other than diversity / role models. Now I see how even my reasonably feminist husband (who does a majority of our housework and pitches in on childcare) still doesn't get certain aspects of inequality. I want moms to run governments. They will make better decisions based on the experience of being a mom.

I'm sure this is biased, but nothing throws a spotlight on your priorities like being a mom.

My sleep schedule for sure... I used to be up till around 11 every night, now I crash closer to 9:30 even on a weekend. And 7 am is sleeping in, where as I used to sleep till like 10 am on on weekend! Now that would be such a wasted morning.

Being a mom has made me a better step mom also, which I'm very thankful for. I also appreciate my step-daughter so much more because she is such a big help with DS and with chores. She's a great big sister.

I also am sooo much more emotional about childhood illnesses or accidents. All are so heartbreaking because I can now put myself in the parent's shoes and it's so hard to think about.

I was just thinking about this while driving to work this morning, that I used to LOVE summer. I love the heat, all the things I can do/enjoy, etc. But that's pre-kid. Now, don't get me wrong.. I still love summer! But it's a lot of more work too. If she's gonna play with water, then I gotta pack all the pool/beach gear; constantly making sure she has sunscreen... And it's extra exhausting being out & about in the heat.

I'm finding myself to start loving fall more. There are seriously festivals every weekend; pumpkin/apple picking; and it's not hot & not cold which makes it great weather to have outings! I never thought I'd break up with summer, haha!

I cut way back on personal care and grooming products. I used to have a slight obsession with Lush, but it's way too expensive. Now I use trader joes or the drugstore for everything.

Similar to you, the meal planning and cooking. I have to know what we are eating every day! I used to just throw together whatever or whine and order pizza (not that that doesn't still happen occasionally!)

Also sleeping in so late on weekends and being a night owl. Now 10:30 is a late night and sleeping in is 8 am even if I do get to sleep in. I'm still slow to fully wake up but mornings are so fun with him that I can't believe I missed half the day by sleeping before!

Budgeting for expenses and buying things on sale or with coupons just weren't things I thought about much. Now daycare is like a second mortgage and I'm so pleased to get a good deal or second hand bargain :silly:

I am WAY more compassionate!
Not saying I was a cold hearted bit**....lol
But I definitely stop, think and think of every aspect of a situation!

I'm way more laid back and stress free than I was before I had DD. I never would imagined that I would no longer worry about every little thing.

After becoming a mother, was there something about you that changed completely, that you wouldn't have believed it 5 or 10 years ago?

I used to love to go out and eat, and HATED cooking. Cooking and cleaning up afterwards was a waste of time and I just didn't see the point. I did it out of necessity and I would eat out on weekends for sure. We always cook ahead of time and just reheat the food on weekdays. The things we cook are mostly pasta and not much veggie or protein.

Now with DS, and we needed to be more mindful about budgets. For some reason, I really really love cooking and eating at home 7 days a week. I didn't even mind that I have to pick DS up early, and go home and cook from scratch every night! We also eat so healthy with a ton of vegetables and protein. I thought I was eating the healthiest foods when I was pregnant, but no, we are the healthiest now. This is something I wouldn't have believed it (and still couldn't believe) 5 years ago.

You? Any natural changes after motherhood?
