@LindsayInNY: I had a consult at a different clinic (doing mini ivf) because it was cheaper and let me tell you the experience was awful! 20+ people in the waiting room, 2 hour wait and SO impersonal. I chaned to someone else who I like much better and better quality. I feel like its worth it to pay a little more.

Have you asked about using a different lab? My ND uses Labcorp. She creates requisitions online, I go to any of their offices for the draw (Labcorp has several near me), then they fax her the results.

Most doctors use different labs if their normal one isn't covered by a patient's insurance.

If you're happy with the RE otherwise, I wouldn't switch. It could cost you more in the long run anyway...

Stay put! My office was efficient and I trusted them, but no warm fuzzies, and sometimes I needed that. Those were times I was really glad to have HB!

I'd stay with the RE you're comfortable with since the price difference may be negligible.

I wouldn't change if I was happy with the RE. You'll have to pay for a new consult and the process will slow down if you change. Plus, you don't know whether you'd be happy with the clinic and just wish you hadn't switched or switched back...For a couple hundred dollars, I'd stay put.

@LindsayInNY: Yes, definitely I bet a consult elsewhere would cost a few hundred dollars anyway. Now, if you were looking at IVF with the prices varying between $10,000 and $15,000, then I would consider changing clinics for sure! :-) And hopefully you won't get there. :)

@Mrs. Jump Rope: No, it's too far away slash in the next state. I think the hospital is their in-house lab? It's 2 miles away.

@Mrs. Pinata: That's kinda my justification. Plus I wouldn't need another consult, etc. and they have been with us through all the genetic testing issues.

@LindsayInNY: If it's just a couple hundred per IUI, I'd stay at the RE you hear better things about. (Even if you did FIVE IUIs that's a difference of $1,000, which is totally worth it if you trust this RE more). And hopefully it will work on the first try!

@LindsayInNY: gotcha! Is it possible to go to their main office, then?

And if their main office has an in-house lab, why is your bloodwork not being sent there?

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Price overall but it's stemming from the blood work being processed as outpatient and not in house, if that makes sense. Anywhere outside that processes it will bill it as outpatient. Since I don't go to their main office, that's what's happening. It's a difference of a couple hundred dollars each cycle/IUI.

@LindsayInNY: so, it's the price of blood work that turns you off... Not the service? Just want to make sure I'm understanding clearly!

Is it possible to have your b/we done elsewhere, like at Quest? My RE did bloodwork in office and had their own lab, so I really don't know if it's an option... But it is a suggestion!

@swedishfish: No, it's a satellite office. I don't know if the main office is at the hospital or what? But the blood work gets picked up every morning and brought to the hospital.

@meganmp: Couple hundred bucks? I think it would just be copays ($35/visit) versus <$500, if I had to guess?

@jmarionsmith: I see a doctor for every ultrasound. A nurse takes my blood and calls with the results.

@bluestriped bee: Sounds like the clinic I'm describing!

We have a clinic here that is known to charge less but they shuttle you through and you are pretty much just a number to them. The reviews are so so. I stayed away from them, but did consider going there when I wanted to switch clinics. Luckily, I heard great reviews on the clinic I'm at now. They also have a very good success rate with people who were unsuccessful at other clinics.

My last clinic had good reviews but I was unhappy with the service and process. My new clinic is more expensive but I definitely feel like the REs care and are trying to get me pregnant and they did find a diagnosis for me. I'm hoping that they get me pregnant!

i totally agree with @meganmp: . i only saw my actual RE before starting all the processes, and then once after we got pregnant. the rest of time it was fellows, nurse practitioners and registered nurses. they all were great and i felt way more comfortable with them than my RE.

It might depend on how much you're saving... I had a great RE, but I know that I was just one on a roster of many. However, my nurse was AMAZING, and made the whole process easier. I mean, if the job gets done, that's all that really matters in the end, right? Well, for me it was that way. I wanted to be in and out of that office quickly, so I was OK with being "just another patient", so that might change my perspective.

@LindsayInNY: if you like the quality of care and attention you're getting from your current RE, then stay there. You need to be comfortable with your doctor.

ETA - I'm surprised though that they don't do blood work in house. Is it a small RE practice?

Would you change REs if it meant saving money but having a more "burn and churn" practice?

My current RE sends all of my lab work to their hospital for processing. That means it gets billed to me as an outpatient expense and I have to pay 10% of the expense (full bill ranges from $400 on up). There's another RE I could go to that does lab work in house but he reviews I've read aren't the best. There are a lot of comments about it being high volume and not very personal. My current doctor, although we've had some minor issues, have been good. Is it worth staying there even though it'll cost more?
