Our dresser was lower and I preferred the height of the changing table, plus I liked the storage it provided and the dresser itself went into the closet, so it would not have been convenient. However, I don't see how you could only drill into the back? I think they make some non-skid type options but you would have to drill into both sides or else the changing table pad could move around. Also, I've never had an issue with pee or poop getting off the table. In fact I wish I got one of these instead of the traditional ones, because I'm sick of washing the cover after 20 months. I need to measure and see if this will fit and might just buy it because WIPEABLEEEEEE IS KING. I hate laundry. When I asked my mom about it, turns out that the dresser was my changing table when I was a baby, too! I actually ended up getting a changing table with drawers so it is like a small dresser with a changing table top. It has been perfect. We used the crib for one of my friends who was staying with us with a 10 mo old, and he just stood up in the section of the crib that didn't have the changing table on it, so I'm hoping it's not an issue. Our changing supplies are in a basket under the crib as well - we pull it out, put the supply basket on the glider next to the crib (they're easily within reach of each other), then buckle the baby onto the changing table and voila! Having something the right height for me was important, and I liked that it had a curved pad and safety bars on the side to help keep her from rolling off. I prefer it and my son's bedrooms (3 in 19 months) have all been big enough to comfortably fit the furniture. I like my changing table set up but if you prefer the dresser option I wouldn't worry too much about messes. They do happen but my son has never pooped during a change and only peed a handful times. Never had an issue with pee getting on the dresser without my knowledge, and I wiped up right away ... my son was more likely to "fire hose" the wall next to the dresser than anything! I changed my son on the dresser until he potty trained at 2 years 3 months. Especially because once they turn 6 months, they DO NOT WANT TO BE ON A CHANGING TABLE and it turns into alligator wrestling. Blowouts are simply when the poop escapes the diaper (while it is being worn) and gets on clothes and maybe whatever baby is laying on/sitting in. It isn't shooting all over anything (at least in my experience).
