we bought a changing table that came as part of a 3 piece set {crib, dresser, changing table} its useful because it has two shelfs underneath so we are already storing a lot of the baby stuff under it and cloth diapers take up a lot of space. It is also higher and I think more secure than using the top of a regular dresser and since I'm tall I prefer this

I registered for a changing table, only because it "looks" nicer. Hopefully we get a lot of use out of it-- we only have a one-story house, so I hope it's not too much of an inconvenience to change the baby there as much as possible. Plus, we'll be CDing so it'll be best to just do it in there w/ the diaper pail.

@Mrsdaredevil: Thank you for the links! I'm TOTALLY gonna turn mine into a buffet table. Love it!!! I looked at our changing table last night and realized it would make the perfect buffet table. :)

We have a dresser because we already had it and don't have room for both. I love being able to still use it even though DD is too big for the changing pad. If it is a messy diaper we just put a receiving blanket down first.

We don't have a dresser and don't plan on buying one until we buy our lo a furniture set after she grows out of the crib. I bought a cheap changing table that has lots of places to store diapers and essentials and all of lo's clothes are in the closet.

The main thing for me was the security of the changing pad, so we went for a solid surface type pad and it would stay put no matter where we put it (within reason, of course). We have it on an Ikea Hemnes cabinet, which I love because I don't have to deal with drawers and it only cost us $50 on clearance!

We have a Hoppop Pilo and I love it.

@banana: yeah I like that too. Since he's still so little I will step away to wash my hands or grab his clothes and it's nice knowing it won't be coming off the table.

@Mrsdaredevil: ooh thanks - I was gonna ask for those too!

@chopsuey119: aw thank you, I love being tall. The only bummer is that when I wear my heels I am as tall as my husband lol!

We are using a dresser as a change table, but it is higher than the usually "low" dresser, so baby is actually a bit higher than on your average change table.

I love our changing table because unlike a dresser, where the changing page just sits on top, the changing table dips in so that the changing pad doesn't slide around. I can attached the changing pad to the changing table and then strap the baby onto the changing pad. There were a few times that I had to step away from the changing table to grab diapers or clothes or whatever and felt better knowing that the changing pad was securely attached.

@Mrsdaredevil: Ooooh, I'd love to see what people have done with the changing table! I was thinking we can use it as a book shelve or something.

We have an antique buffet table. My mom and I were looking at furnishure in an antique store that refurbishes the furniture, and we saw it and fell in love. It has drawer space, and it's open on the bottom so that's where we keep the basket of diapers and little trash can. There's no room on the top for anything but the changing pad, but it works just fine for us.

Count me in the floor/dresser/any available flat surface camp. LOL. I've babysat my nephew almost weekly since he was born, and only used the changing table a handful of times. It was no use to me after the first few months, when he got bigger and more squirmy. I was always afraid he would roll himself off. But it doesn't bother me to be leaning/kneeling at this point, either. Maybe I'll change my mind when I'm sporting a big baby belly. :)

@miss-spunkin: I agree about the height thing too. I am 5'7 and DH is 6 feet, so it would be a little uncomfortable changing on top of the little dresser we have.

Even though a lot of people told us it was a waste, I am really glad we got a regular changing table. It has shelves for great storage. I don't know where we would have put all the stuff that is on there now (diapers, wipes, bins with accessories, blankets, bathing supplies, etc.)

I saw on Pinterest a really cool way to use the changing table after the baby outgrows out.

Dresser.
Her nursery is too small for both and I want to be able to re purpose it for her "big girl" room. I was consciously checking dimensions when selecting a dresser to find one close to the height of a changing table. :)

We bought a changing table that was on sale and I really love it. I love that it's higher than our dresser (easier on my husband) and that it has open shelves and a drawer. We bought ours for $80 and it was totally worth it for us.

We ended up repurposing the dresser I used growing up, and it would have JUST barely fit a changing pad on top, so we decided not to go that route. We found a $15 white changing table on craigslist and swapped it up. It needed the shelving replaced, so we spent about another $20 on corkboard and my husband cut it to the right dimensions.

One thing I like about a changing table as opposed to a dresser is that the height is perfect for me. I am 5'8 and most dressers are shorter than the changing tables, so it's a huge plus that I don't have to bend at all to change LO's diaper.
