@Silva: Awesome! I am definitely considering them.
Do babies also use winter flannel sheets? Or is that just for adults?
@jedeve: LOL--pregnancy is what kept me warm last winter! I highly recommend a winter pregnancy if your spouse likes the house "too" cold. Hah!
@shopaholic: Oh, I should swap out my workout stuff....

We put a bedspread on our bed and set a few extra throws out on the couches. We also bring out all the winter clothes and lack away the summer items. We also have to do the winterizing-turning off the water outdoors so the pipes don't burst and putting soffits over them. We get our vents cleaned and the trees that dangle over the house trimmed. This way if we get too much ice or snow, the branches don't fall on the house and cause damage

I bring out our winter comforter and keep the heat set at 74 degrees. That's about it!

I've pulled out a 2nd comforter. Will probably pull out a heater blanket for the sofa too. I keep my pjs and workout clothes stored for hot & cold, so I have to swap those out soon too.
closer to christmas I will swap out the throw pillows and table runner for decor.

I looooove flannel sheets. I really want some. Although I get so hot being pregnant, I wouldn't want them now. And we can't afford them for a king sized bed!

@pastemoo: I grew up with flannel sheets in the winter & love them. We got ours from The Company Store. LL Bean makes nice ones too.
If you or your husband is a hot sleeper it might be hard, but we just keep our bedroom door closed so that it gets pretty chilly in there. I like having the warm sheets/heavy blankets while the room is really cold.

One of the best things about flannel sheets is they never feel really cold when you get into them!

@char54: :) I love watching TV on the coach and sitting under a quilt and holding hands--best thing about winter!

@ms.janedoe: Oh shoot! I need to find my hats!

@Silva: Do you recommend flannel sheets?

And to clarify, i said "house" but we live in an apartment. I grew up in one, too, and to me house=home, so my apartment is a "house" in my mind even though it technically isn't.

We are in an apartment, so there isn't as much to do- but we take out the screens and put in storm windows, put all the gardens to bed, put on flannel sheets, and put winter clothes/boots/mittens/hats out.

We sleep with the flannel sheets, thin blanket and a thin quilt until it gets really cold, and then I have a huge, thick down comforter I pull out. If it was just me, I would sleep under that thing 75% of the year, but my husband is a furnace and might die.

We don't do a whole lot. The mittens and hats become more accessible, an extra blanket gets thrown out, but that's about it.

I have buckets downstairs with our summer/winter clothes so I swap those out & I change our coats/footwear in the main closet. The only other thing I do is get out our quilts for downstairs (for when we are on the couch) and throw our big heavy comforter on the bed. Oh - and put the AC unit and fans away!

How do you change your home for winter?

I never really changed anything but what hangs in our coat closet and what sits on our bed (quilt or fleece blanket or both or none). However with LO here I feel like his bed sheets are too cold and want to get him winter sheets (flannel?)

and that got me thinking-- I want some warmer winter sheets, too!

Do you change a lot in your house when the weather changes?
