@MrsCB: we used it until she was 11 lbs and it made her fit much more snugly. Also, if you baby has little or no hair (or has sensitive skin) make sure you cover the Britax logo with something. LO got an ugly rash on the back of her head from that stupid thing.

It said to use it under 11 lbs so we used it until he was 11 lbs, and then took it out.

No we did not use it. LO was a month early and weighed 6.4lbs. They did the test where she had to sit in the seat without her stats dropping for an hour before we were allowed to leave the hospital. We gave them the wedge to use, but they never used it. Honestly they looked at us like we were crazy when we handed it to them.

We got our car seat yesterday and we were trying to figure out how to secure the baby. But I'm not sure we should use the low birth weight wedge. It says to use if baby is 4-11 pounds, so it seems most likely that when DS is born, he'll be within that range. At least I hope so! <11 pounds doesn't seem like low birth weight to me, it seems normal. But all the info I can find about says that it's used with preemies.

So if you had a chaperone with your newborn, did you use the wedge?
