I was applying every hour when my lips were at their worse, but they eventually healed and then I was able to cut back. My lips were badly chapped for a while and I used aquaphor like mad until I developed an allergic reaction to it. Now I use regular vaseline and that seems to work for me. The best way that worked for me would be I'd wet my lips and then put the vaseline over on top to seal in the moisture. Whenever it felt like the vaseline was wearing off, I'd re-apply. My mom has always told me not to use chapstick because the more you use it the more your lips will think they need it causing them to chap more.
