NUts to You is such a great read for this age! Also this link is great for searching awesome books for kids to read. And apps, and movies etc.

I teach 3rd grade and do these read aloud as every year that are hugely popular (and slightly above third grade level):

The witches by Roald Dahl
The miraculous journey of Edward Tulane by Kate dicamillo
Holes by Louis sachar
Tales of a 4th grade nothing by Judy Blume
Sideways stories from wayside school by Louis sachar

If she likes fantasy I highly recommend the perct Jackson series.
The Artemis fowl series is great too, but a little bit older.

Wonder if a really great book.

My 8-9 year olds all love the diary of a wimpy kid series and the dork diary series. Another popular series is the "I survived" series.

We love Magic Tree House, but my 6 year old is feeling almost too old for them. I really love this list, as it has great ideas for all ages, broken down by age. It might give you some ideas--we have loved every single one we have picked up from it...

My niece is over for the week and she wants to pick out some books to read at the library. We went today but she was overwhelmed and not sure what to pick. She picked up a book from a series called The Never Girls (by Disney, based off Tinkerbell), but she said it's more for younger kids. She's pretty mature but not quite ready for some of the popular YA books. Any good ideas for her?
