Yeah, it's not always my favorite and wouldn't have been my first choice to buy. But sometimes it looks really cute on. And, worst case, it ends up being spare clothes that I keep in the daycare cubby, diaper bag, or the "disaster bag" that lives in our car!

@Anagram: ha I swore if I had a girl she wasn't ever going to be super super pink, I liked more neutral things, and I prefer purple to pink anyway... Yeah C looks really good in pink! It suits her much better than purple. G actually looks better in purple at least.

(Eta: and I just realized all three of us are wearing purple today)

@looch: oh I have nothing against character clothes - my kids love them and wear them all the time - I was answering in general about clothes my MIL buys that I just don't like for whatever reason.

@lamariniere: @Foodnerd81: my biggest pet peeve is pink. I've just always disliked that bubble gum pink color and SO MUCH of what we are given is bubble gum pink, since we had girls. I used to get really bothered by it, but LO is currently obsessed with this giant, pink sparkly tutu my mom gave her (the kind of thing I would NEVER buy or put on her myself), so....(shrug).

@Anagram: @Foodnerd81: yep, I use those clothes for daycare backups, pajamas, undershirts or summer days when they want to play in the sandbox.

Can the clothes stay at her house for when your LO visits?

That's what we're doing with our moms. Stuff we don't like we just aren't accepting with full knowledge if grandmas keep them they can use it when LO hangs out with them.

@Anagram: or good spare clothes to keep in the diaper bag! I never want to keep anything I really like because they don't really get used.

I have one aunt who buys the girls a ton of clothes! I like most of it, some of it isn't my style. Not so much character stuff but things with sassy sayings, like Mommys the boss. I save those for days we aren't going anywhere and try to take a picture to send her.

That said some of the things I don't particularly like end up being the toddler's favorite. She got these two dresses for Christmas, one was fabric printed with gum balls or something, the other was rainbow sprinkles. I offered the gum ball one when we were going to be home sick all day anyway and she is randomly obsessed with it. So whatever.

Lucky for me my MIL actually has good taste and likes to go shopping with me when she visits so I can pick out clothes for them. 😍

I don't care about this any more, I used to be anti character, but then I realized that it is a short phase and my son is really hard on his clothes, so it doesn't stay around for long.

I've bought my son a few character shirts, he's worn them out an about and I honestly am curious if other parents think something about it...because it seems to me it's like an issue the parents have about some kind of message that it sends....I'd love to discuss it more!

When LO1 was a baby we did get some really ugly Disney crap and other stuff I really hated. They became mealtime outfits, especially when it was something that stains!
Either donate or use it for messy activities that could ruin them is my vote.

My MIL does this sometimes and I'm not a fan of character things. Maybe I'll have her wear it if I know we're staying in/snow day/outdoor play, etc. She hasn't done it too many times but I've told her in the past I'm not a fan. And I know she'll be getting the new baby everything that says "daddy...this and that" ugh

My MIL gave our son a couple of books and two character t-shirts for Valentines Day. I know I shouldn't punch a gift horse in the mouth, but I really dislike putting my kid in character tv show clothing. Plus, it's Thomas the train and Sesame Street Characters, two shows he doesn't really watch. Ok rant over.

Btw, my in-laws are awesome, but I know I'm going to feel compelled to not waste the shirts or have him wear them when they are around.

Do your in-laws or parents buy your kids clothing you hate?
