@AprilFool: Same with me. She loves that stuff. There's a lot of imaginative play that comes out of her ponies playing with Paw Patrol and Peppa.

We don't do character clothes but she does have cups, placemat, underwear and pj's. She also wants only character bandaids 😉

DS doesn't really care or notice that much. I pretty much never buy things with characters, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for new cups/bottles/whatever to show up in our house and not have a character on it. So he'd never think to comment on it.

We'll have to see how DD is when she's old enough to express an opinion.

As soon as she was old enough to make her own choices I let her. What does it matter to me what she wears/uses as long as she is happy? And she likes a lot of character things but her choices extend outside those.

I don't do character clothes (visible - they have some undies/socks purchased by MIL, which I'm trying to get rid of, haha) or shoes. I don't mind figurines for pretend play or items with a collectible component (the kids at school all hang keychains off their backpacks, so my girls have a few My Little Pony keychains).

In general we don't have character plates/water bottles/etc., b/c I'm picky about the quality of these items, and generally character things seem to be more of the cheap & cheerful variety. We do have princess silverware, b/c that's what I could find in the right size, and the girls are thrilled. ;)

I'm actually trying to find DD character tees to encourage her out of her normal tunic/dresses. We live where it's either cold or raining (usually both) and shirts are so much easier to have on under raingear/snowsuit.

I'm not a huge fan of character clothes, so I've never really bought many. Maybe a special shirt or two, but that's it.

Water bottles/plates/etc doesn't bother me at all though. They can have all those that they want.

It's character shoes that drive me crazy....and of course, that's what they want lol!

We have a few character shirts, some cups, a few water bottles, and toys. I drew the line at a full Paw Patrol bedroom set though. She has sheets/pillowcase that are Skye, but her comforter/sham is lavender. I figure that they are only little once.

Really the only character items I've kept in the house are the small figurings (peppa for instance) because they seem to encourage creative and independent play. But I draw the line at clothing, bath or food products, etc. If she really wants peppa on her pants for instance, I have a sticker sheet that she can go to town with.

We (DH) have purchased or been given (MIL) character items. I'm not a fan at all, but really it's NBD. When LO starts showing his own character preference I hope he realizes the non-character items are just as good and function just the same.

@Bao: I really dont want to do this but I assume all kids choose character stuff when they get old enough? Right now my son (16 months) has ONE Mickey toy that someone else gave him. That's it. I guess it will not last ... hahaha.

That is my personal nightmare! Lol. Luckily my boys don't have too many character items. They have some toys, like the Daniel Tiger trolley, and a Curious George puzzle shirt and tshirt.

I don't mind characters as long as they are not on clothes. We had our first trip through the toy section with her wanting everything Frozen and Peppa 😬Costumes are ok.

My son is 6 now, and I have to say that character mania is completely gone. I was worried about it when it was in full force because it seemed everything had a character on it, but now, the only character things we have in the house are some bottles of shampoo (minions, lol) and a lunchbox (star wars).

My girls are really into characters, which means they want character EVERYTHING, clothes, cups, toys, shoes etc. I am pretty laid back about them making choices about what they want and I'm not against character items but lately I've been trying to encourage other non-character choices. For instance they needed new water bottles so I went ahead and just got them basic colors, and they commented how they didn't have a character on them. I don't want to be a mean mom, is there a way to explain to them that not everything has to have a character on it? Or is this just something I need to let go? I just feel like they phase in and out of things so fast!

Do you give into character everything? Do you give your LO a choice or just get what you think is best?
