@Happygal: It was okay and we did discuss the results. My progesterone was 4.5 so it did confirm that there was no ovulation. She gave me some recommendations although some of them I'm unsure of at the moment, those are trying gluten free and taking something called Naltrexone.

I was a day too late to start anything for this cycle so the plan for this one is to repeat all the bloodwork and do progesterone 3-12dpo. The following cycle I will take Femara on cycle day 3, all at once. Do progesterone and repeat all the bloodwork as well to see if it helps. If not we will reassess and she talked about possibly adding injectibles. As far as the sonohysterogram, there were no polyps but my lining is still thicker so she did a biopsy. I should have those results in a week.

I feel a little lost with a lot of this stuff but I'm trying to look into everything and decide what recommendations I want to take, if any!

I also have no advice because I've never heard of E2 having anything to do with confirming ovulation. I hope you get some good answers!

I just saw that I actually have replies on this thread, sorry for the absence!

I have a little more information but not much because I've only talked to nurses over the phone so far. I did my pelvic ultrasound and whatever that showed prompted her to schedule me for a saline sonohysterogram tomorrow morning and then I think we will be able to discuss all the results. I did have a progesterone test but haven't received the results. I'm guessing that it wasn't great though based off the nurse's reaction when confirming that it was peak +7.

I hadn't seen anything really about testing E2 for ovulation either but I think the reason why she went that route was because we thought I was ovulating based off charting and opks so I think it was for a suspected weak ovulation. They told me that since I didn't hit 200 I didn't ovulate.

And I should say I'm only with an OB right now. Before we knew these issues they told me the RE wouldn't take me until a year after my miscarriage.

@spaniellove: Maybe? The pelvic ultrasound I had was "2dpo" according to my chart. Not sure if it would show up on that or not.

@Mrs.Someone: Yes, but I'm not sure of the number yet. I don't think it was good though but that was to be expected.

@Tidybee: Sounds similar! Although my temps do stay highish (well high for me which is very low 97's) until a day or 2 before I see blood! I'm guessing Clomid will be in my future so I'm happy to see that it only took you 2 cycles on it! Thanks for sharing!

@LindsayInNY: Bloodwork to test estradiol.

My RE always tested it as part of my monitoring. But typically it's used to tell you if the follicles are still growing or if they peaked. Not sure it can really confirm ovulation.

I don't really have any suggestion but your situation sounds somewhat similar to mine. I never did the E2 tests...my doc only tested progesterone to confirm ovulation. But I would get a nice beautiful ovulation spike on my chart, the same day as a positive OPK, but followed by a gradual decrease in temp so i always thought I was ovulating and that it was a progesterone issue. I had 5 cycles of prometrium and I still didn't get pregnant. My progesertone was 4.5, indicating that ovulation had happened (they think) but it was very weak. My RE put me on Clomid along with prometrium to make "the beginning of the process stronger" instead of just the end, and i got pregnant on my second cycle on clomid (and even ovulated 2 eggs) and ironically wasn't on prometrium that cycle because I was so totally resigned and over all of the funky side effects that came with it.

@Mrs.Someone: Actually I haven't either. My RE does an ungodly amount of monitoring but they would still want to know your LH and P4 levels for the cycle and look at u/s to check for egg release.

ETA: What they have mentioned as a possibility is ovulating an immature egg, which can happen even if your E2 is high.

@spaniellove: @Mrs.Someone: have some good questions for you. I don't know how much I can help trouble shoot this for you, but I did want to offer encouragement. It sounds like you have a thorough doctor, and I hope you get good answers soon Keep asking questions here--there are some very smart women with lots of experience.

Are you able to share a link to your chart? And have they done an ultrasound around when you thought you were ovulating to see if an egg was released?

Brief history: I have one son who was conceived on the 2nd cycle off bcp. I had a missed miscarriage (conceived on 3rd cycle post bcp) with a D&C back in June 2013. We have been ttc one year this month but are on cycle #8 post miscarriage.

I just started some testing for a suspected LP defect/low progesterone problem this cycle with an OB that specializes in those things. She had me start with E2 tests every other day during my peak fertile time. I generally "ovulate" cd 16-19.

CD 13 my E2 level was 78
CD15 was 116
CD 17 (positive opk this day) it was 144
CD 19 Level dropped down to 78
CD 20 (yesterday) I had a temp rise and went higher this morning.

They said that I didn't ovulate because my level would have to be in the 200s to indicate a mature follicle. My chart looks exactly like it does every month and they all indicate some sort of ovulation (we sort of suspected it might be weak) but I imagine this has been happening all along. I'm going for a pelvic ultrasound this afternoon to make sure there aren't any issues there and then will do a progesterone level on Saturday because she wants the whole picture before we move forward.

It's a little disheartening to know that we may not have even had a chance this past 8 cycles. I've conceived twice before so it's confusing and I'm wondering what's changed. Anyone have any experience with this or any idea why my chart would indicate ovulation despite not ovulating?

*Technically this is secondary infertility but I figured I may get more responses in just fertility.
