Your acupuncturist is right, to get the most accurate reading possible you need to move as little as is absolutely necessary.

I found that covering the little speaker part of the thermometer with my thumb muffled the sound a lot. My DH is a heavy sleeper, so it wouldn't have bothered him, but the beeping annoyed me :)

Yepp, you're not even supposed to talk or really move before you take it so that it records your temperature at absolute rest. If the beeping is really loud maybe you can get a different one that's quieter? My husband slept through it no problem so we didn't have an issue with it but I can see how it would be a potential annoyance!

I used to have my husband do it while I was still half asleep. You're not supposed to get up, just roll over and check it. It's also vital to check it at the same time everyday.

I actually keep mine under my pillow. I just slide my hand up and grab it. Once it starts to beep I try to smother it with my hand or pillow :)

yeah, you're definitely supposed to grab it and temp while in bed. my DH sleeps through anything, so i stopped worrying about waking him up as i'm barely awake when i take my own temp!

@Rachel: @twodoghouse: Thanks, I had no idea. I guess I'll try muffling the sound or getting a new one...

Yeah, everyone's right - you're supposed to just roll over and grab the thermometer - no more movement than that.

What I do to avoid waking my husband with the beeping is put the covers over my head - it muffles the beeps (and the LED screen) and there's a pause of about a second between beeps so if I get too hot I can just lift the covers for a sec to get some fresh air in there. Haha - the things we do for our DH!

Sorry, but I think your acupuncturist is right. Maybe not about "waking up too much" but you're definitely not supposed to get up and walk around before temping. I stay in bed, reach over to my bedside table to temp and then go back to sleep (I don't even sit up). FWIW, I bought a new thermometer recently and it does not continually beep like my old one did. It just beeps once when it's done. Maybe this would help with the waking up the husband problem?

You're supposed to take your temp while you are stil in bed, because moving around wont give you the true basal temperature

So, my chart has been all over the place. I was trying to go do it in the bathroom so I wouldn't wake DH up with the beeping thermometer. After talking to my acupuncturist, she told me that was throwing it off big time. She told me even of you "wake up too much" it throws it off. Is this true?
