It's more important to take it at the same time every day. I sleep in fits and starts and was able to get good charts by just charting before I got up in the AM

Similar to what @MaryM: said-- I would go ahead and temp (just once, though) if you wake after you've had 4 solid hours of sleep and know that you won't get 4 consecutive additional hours!

Your temperature changes depending on how long and how deep you've slept, so the MOST important thing is to temp at the same time each day.

If you do wake up and are going to get out of bed, and you know you won't be going back to sleep for a full 4 hours, that's when I would go ahead and temp when you wake up. But I'd note the time difference so you can account for that.

@MaryM: @alohaorchid: thank you ladies! I'm still pretty new to charting, so I got worried that I was going to really mess it up! I don't want to go through all the charting stuff just to find out I did something wrong and it's not actually useful!

I haven't temped in a while but when I did I was just doing it when I was actually awake for the day. On weekdays I get up at 5am, and there's no way I was doing that on days off just to temp! I never found that it screwed with my O pattern.

Unless you're wide awake or get up out of bed, I wouldn't worry about it.

So the title pretty much says it, but there's a bit of a back story...we've been in a very long process of moving. After staying in hotels, we are now on an air mattress in a pretty much empty apartment until mid November when the truck with our belonging arrives.

That being said, it's not comfortable to sleep. I keep half waking up at all hours of the night, opening my eyes, remembering where I am and falling back to sleep. The whole thing takes about 3 seconds, and I don't get up/talk/move around unless it's to roll over to the other side.

I've just been taking my temp when I wake up for the day (I've got a "temp alarm" set for every morning). Should I be taking it when I have these little wake ups too? If it was just going to be a few nights I'd mark them as questionable and move on, but it's going to be for at least another 3 weeks, so I don't know what to do!

Any advice?
