Agree with everything happygirl said. And I really liked the backlight on the nexcare. I had a target one before that and it was so frustrating bc it flashed the last temp so quickly that I missed it a few times, after I had gotten up so early to temp.

Yes, you can still chart even if you botched your first few temps. Even if you miss one randomly you don't have to scrap the whole month. It is most important to get consistent temps before and right after O. Most people keep temping through the end of the cycle to see if temps stay high, but some don't.

I have this thermometer and it works really well. Sounds like your second thermometer. Temping to the tenth place is fine. I don't know how long the batteries last.

1. Is it still worth it to chart this month if I botched the first three temps?

Yes!

2. Any suggestions on a thermometer?

I like my Nexcare. I found the perfect spot where I can put my thumb and muffle most of the noise. It's backlit and stores the temp.

3. If the thermometer I have is my best bet, should I replace the battery?

You may want to get one just to be prepared, but if it's still working, don't worry about it. If you get the exact same temp every day, it might be time to replace it. The Nexcare just didn't turn on correctly when the battery ran out.

4. ...it shows temp to the tenth of a degree not hundredth

I think I remember Taking Charge of Your Fertility saying that to the tenth is sufficient. That was my go-to resource, so I went with that advice!

5. I feel like I know just enough to make myself nuts.

Post lots of questions here! I don't temp anymore, but I'm glad I did in the beginning and I learned a lot. It's fun and very eye opening. I'd tell you not to obsess over every dip and rise, but it's pretty hard to avoid!

We are just starting to ttc this month and I feel like I know just enough to make myself nuts.

The short version is:

Is it still worth it to chart this month if I botched the first three temps? (I assume yes but it there is a good reason to skip it I would rather know now than figure out later that I was making myself crazy for no reason :) )

Any suggestions on a thermometer? I have two, one is going in the trash, it doesn't beep every few seconds which was a big plus in my mind but it isn't back lit and it doesn't store the last temp. The other one beeps every few seconds but is back lit and stores the last temp, it shows temp to the tenth of a degree not hundredth -- it seems like there is some argument about which is better?

If the thermometer I have is my best bet, should I replace the battery? I temped for 4-5 months with it about 5 years ago but it seems to be working fine.

Thanks!
