We are doing this now (though maybe don't take advice from me because I did have an oops pregnancy a month ago, but we knew the risk was high) :silly:

I use ovuview to track. I rely heavily on opks, and start doing them around cd10 even though I never O before 16 or so. We use nothing before cd10, then the first time I get somewhat of a line on the opk, we start using condoms, or on cd15 whichever comes first. Then once I confirm o, we stop using condoms after 3 days until the end of the month. Not so scientific, but it works (when we actually use the condoms lol).

I'm in pretty much the same boat, was on BCP for like 10 years, got off and charted faithfully for 3 months and got pregnant with my son. I went back on the pill briefly when he was about 9 months but our insurance changed and I never bothered to refill my prescription. We are just doing pull and pray and I'm charting using FF. admittedly not as carefully as I should be.

I charted to avoid for about 6 months before ttc. I mostly only did temps, occasionally would note cervical mucous if it was obvious, but it wasn't something I checked. Used condoms or pull out before O was confirmed and were extra careful during when I thought I was fertile. After O was confirmed with temps we used nothing until my period. I didn't trust that I wouldn't miss a sign or O early.

Only had one period after C before getting pregnant again, but the signs were actually way more obvious for me. I wasn't temping or charting, but I could tell I was ovulating, confirmed two weeks later with the bfp.

i never had cervical mucus i could chart but i charted to avoid for a year before trying to getting to get pregnant. it took a while for me to trust my signs. it's important to wait until you are sure of your signs.

i used Kindara and really loved it to chart, it had a good trying to avoid setting and LOTS of good info.

I would chart for at least a few months after being off birth control before you stop using protection - use condoms in the meantime or something. Because you may discover, as I did, that once your cycle isn't bring regulated by BCP it's all over the place - I could never predict when I was going to ovulate, it could vary as much as two weeks!

@Chillybear: If you don't have much mucous, then you might want to use OPKs for a few months to make sure you know when to expect fertile week to start.

We successfully avoided for about 3 years before we TTC. We used condoms during the first half of my cycle but nothing from a couple days after O was confirmed (so the egg was no longer viable) until AF arrived. I wasn't comfortable using nothing earlier in the cycle in case I O'd early or some super-sperm hung around or something. I used FF but after awhile, my body's signs were really obvious to me so I stopped bothering to chart.

@MaryM: Of the 3 months i charted with out meds I only experienced the tell tale mucous once.... and surprisingly not the cycle I conceived.... no idea if that was related to coming off hormonal birth control or not.

I used FF and P&P

I'd suggest reading up on mucous. Charting temps alone only really confirms fertility after the fact. Mucous gives better clues ahead of time.

We successfully avoided pregnancy for two years by charting before TTC. We did not use any barrier methods, just pull and pray. It's pretty much the same as charting to TTC, you know when you are going to ovulate and you either abstain or use a barrier. I used Fertility Friend some, but I really prefer writing it down on paper with the charts in the book.

I charted and temped for about 3 months with the intention of getting pregnant. I read/own Taking Charge of Your Fertility and have a basic working knowledge of how all that works. The pill has been my go to method since I was a teenager and I was on the mini pill then a regular pill post partum.

I recently had my doctor switch me to a different pill but if i dont feel more "normal" on that I'm toying with the idea of using charting and temping as our birth control method.

Ideally, we're probably about a year out from trying for #2 but would also welcome another child before then.

What do I need to know, to put this into practice? What app do you use to chart (used FF during TTC, Downloaded Ovia and I like it but its more conception based)? Do you avoid during peak or just use a barrier?
