So if D is running off, we just say "Red Light!" and he stops on a dime. Once we catch up, if it's an ok space for him to go running off again, we say "Green Light" and let him go. It drives me crazy! We finally started taking her inside immediately and being done outside or putting her in her car seat and not giving her the privilege of climbing in herself or helping to buckle and stopped pretty fast. Leaving when she runs would definitely suck for you but I bet you'd only need to do it a couple of times before she made the leap. We play chase in the house in a big circle around the kitchen and living room. When my son wants to chase we agree on how many laps we're going to do, and then count them off. It helps to keep it controlled. One thing that helps is that we learned to freeze from gymnastics class. It was taught on the first day, and when the teacher calls freeze, all the kids stop and put their hands up in a "stop" pose, sort of? So I will say "freeze!" if own of my 2 year olds start to stray or wander off. It works wonders.
