i;ve never noticed a relationship between hangover and price or type of alcohol.

Any type of wine gives me a hangover! I can have one glass of white and be ok, but any red at all and I'm done for. It's terrible.

I save wine for special occasions and stick with beer!

Just wanted to report back that I no longer get hangovers after having some wine in the evening! Except when my friend had us over for a BBQ and poured some Two Buck Chuck, and I was hurtin' the next day.

@lady grey: Wow thanks for that link! Very very interesting. I don't get headaches while I'm drinking though - only the next day.

@looch: Will have to try that out!

Doesn't hold true for me or my husband - but does hold true for cheap champagne. Good champagne never gives me a hangover, but even just a couple of glasses of cheap champagne always results in a hangover!

@mrbee: Try an organic wine, like Our Daily Red, and see how that goes.

Yeah, for me the price/quality of the wine has nothing to do with my hangover. It's all about the sweetness. Reislings and Gewürztraminers are guaranteed migraine-level hangovers for me. Interestingly, it seems like the sweeter the wine, the higher the sulfites. http://winefolly.com/tutorial/sulfites-in-wine/

The kind of wine is what gets me- I'm guaranteed a headache off Pinot grigios. The sweeter wines get me too if I don't drink enough water.

A friend did research on genetics and alcohol tolerance, she's of Asian decent and found she had little tolerance and that it left her system much slower than her very German husband

For me it holds true, but it also ties in with sulfites. Wines with excess sulfites give me terrible headaches, but expensive wines can have excessive sulfites too

Cup of Jo had a post on this topic recently- it could be due to sulfites and amines in wine, not necessarily the quality:

http://cupofjo.com/2015/04/red-wine-makes-me-mean-2/

I don't get bad hangovers from wine, but I do notice that it (any alcohol) disrupts my sleep.

Yup, true for me! I drank some cheap wine since that's what they had at a sporting event and yuck, did not have a good nights sleep. I am also old so maybe only young people can answer this one!

A friend told me that cheap wine gives you bad hangovers. This may explain a lot! I cut way back on drinking but have been getting brutal hangovers when I do drink. I thought it was just bad luck or maybe the aging process going into overdrive, but maybe it's because we've been buying cheap wine lately!

Gonna open a nicer bottle of wine this weekend, and see if my friend's theory is true. What do you think?
