We've traveled only with an infant seat and checked it at the gate. We stuck it in a large trash bag!

Since we used the car seat in the stroller, we gate checked both the car seat and the stroller. If we were bringing it in addition to the stroller I totally would have curb side checked the car seat. There was no way to use it on the plane as we were flying during the holidays and all our flights were full.

@looch: No, at this point I think she will sit pretty well in the seat and stay buckled when we tell her to. We have talked a lot about car safety and I think that will carry over to the plane. Also like I said this trip has already broke our budget so I'm really trying to not buy anything that is not completely necessary and never used again.

I would just use it on the plane if you can. It keeps her and the seat both safer. I always worry that they will toss the seat around and then it will be the same as if it had been in a car accident. We just went ahead and bought a car seat to leave at my parents so we wouldn't have to worry about traveling with one.

We flew with our infant seat and gate checked on the way there, luggage checked it on the way back. It was easier jus checking it when we checked in with the luggage.

Delta did not have a bag for us at least one way, so I was glad we brought our own- it was a big black contractor garbage bag, because we are super classy. I labeled it as a car seat with some neon labels and duct tape. If you won't be flying much I would just do that but practice at home to make sure it fits!

We just flew. I bought a bag on Amazon ($16) and checked it with our luggage. It doesn't cost anything to check. I saw other car seats without bags that looked to be shrink wrapped or whatever iit's called to be wrapped entirely in clear plastic.

Another vote for clear garbage bag (the airlines has always had a bag for us, but it doesn't hurt to bring your own) and check with luggage.

We've gate checked ours several times. The airline always provides a bag for us without even asking for it. We pretty much always fly Southwest though so it may be airline dependent.

We just used our crappier car seat, clear garbage bagged it, and called it good. We checked it with the luggage and it wS fine. I know some people say they can get damaged or whatever, but...yeah.

@looch: Thats good to know that a cheap garbage bag works.

I don't mind buying a bag, but we never fly so I don't want to spend more than like $10-15 on a bag (this trip is already costing us a fortune).

If it's free, I check it with luggage. I always put it in a bag, either a clear garbage bag or the bright orange cheapie bag (costs about $15 at BRU) just to keep all the straps together so it doesn't get caught on anything else and to keep it clean.

We are flying next month and I guess I need to figure out logistics.

We have to bring her convertible seat with us, but don't want it on the plane.

So either we check it at the front when we check in (but we don't have a bag) or we use a cart thing to carry it with us to the gate and gate check it (again, still no bag).
